4 STAR LUXURY BOUTIQUE HOTEL AND SPA MISSION INN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO TO HIGHLIGHT TOWN’S HISTORY AND CULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE

Date:

The much-anticipated Mission Inn San Juan Capistrano, a 124-room 4-star luxury boutique hotel and spa, is set to break ground this winter on the site where the original Mission Inn once stood.

With its prime location next to the historic Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission Inn will join the “Jewel of the Missions” in promoting the town’s unique historical and cultural heritage. The hotel’s California mission-inspired architecture and exhibit of curated artifacts from Mission San Juan Capistrano will create a natural “extension” of the beloved Mission San Juan Capistrano, California’s landmark #200. Mission Inn San Juan Capistrano will be operated by a renowned, international boutique hotel brand, so all guests are ensured the highest of standards and a full-service experience.

Hotel site owner and developer, Bill Griffith of Rivendell Land Company, is a 25-year resident of San Juan Capistrano and a preservationist at heart. Recognized as a premier developer of large-scale master planned communities and commercial/office projects, Griffith’s first investment was a historical building on Whyte Avenue in his hometown of Edmonton, Canada.  Thirty years ago, Griffith helped steer the redevelopment of Whyte Avenue where the vision of preserving its historical integrity and charm has made the location — now known as Old Strathcona — not only the main arts/entertainment/shopping district of Edmonton, but also one of the top destinations in all of Canada.

Griffith envisions the same distinction for San Juan Capistrano’s Historical Town Center, home to California’s Mission Jewel and a number of nationally recognized historical structures — two of which he is the proud owner.  The Esslinger Building (1939) was beautifully restored over a decade ago and earned Rivendell Land Company recognition as the recipient of the Mayor’s Community Pride Award in 2004.  Griffith recently purchased the Egan House (1886) and is excited to bring this important Heritage site back to life as well. Exterior restoration is ongoing and work is scheduled to commence soon on improvements for the new tenant.

Griffith’s commitment to the historical downtown involved his investment of time as well. He accepted the offer to sit on the steering committee for the HTC Master Plan along with other volunteer stakeholders, and continues to participate in meetings to help develop parking solutions.  Currently one of the founding members of the Heritage Tourism Association, he shares the vision of making San Juan Capistrano a true “destination” for global travelers as well as local visitors.

Griffith and Rivendell’s team are equally committed to Mission San Juan Capistrano, and are collaborating with the Mission’s executive director, Mechelle Lawrence Adams, to ensure the Mission Inn will complement the historical aesthetics of downtown, be sensitive to the needs of the city, and stand as a landmark for future generations.

Besides convenient access to Mission San Juan Capistrano, Mission Inn San Juan Capistrano will be located within walking distance to an array of historical landmarks and buildings, the charming Los Rios Historic District (the oldest neighborhood in California), local restaurants, shops, the San Juan Capistrano train station, movie theater and other family activities.  It is also close to bike trails linked to some of the most beautiful beaches in Southern California; equestrian enthusiasts can enjoy scenic horse trails, nearby stables and an acclaimed equestrian center.  For guests who wish to explore beyond historic San Juan Capistrano, the Mission Inn is an easy drive or scenic train ride to San Diego, Los Angeles and the “Happiest Place on Earth,” Disneyland.

Mission Inn San Juan Capistrano also will offer amenities to appeal to the discriminating tastes of guests and the community seeking a one-of-a-kind experience.  With the Mission next door, Mission Inn will be ideally situated to host weddings, wedding receptions, and special events, providing also a stunning backdrop for photographers. For those who wish to relax and be pampered, Mission Inn will include other onsite amenities such as a signature restaurant, organic pool feature, spa and gym.

Along with the “Jewel of the Mission,” there will be a historically relevant hotel downtown … Mission Inn San Juan Capistrano.  Anticipate the experience!
