Aliso Viejo Mayor’s Message: Celebrate Aliso Viejo’s 15-year anniversary

Date:

Mayor Mike Munzing talks about City of Aliso Viejo’s 15-year anniversary in his latest message, which follows:

The countdown is underway to the City of Aliso Viejo’s 15th anniversary celebration. It was July 1st, 2001 when Aliso Viejo made history by becoming Orange County’s 34th city. Since then, our city has blossomed into a vibrant community of just over 50,000 people.
Our city was born out of necessity – providing homes that were affordable for first-time buyers, young professionals and families who worked in Irvine and other nearby areas. With just about everything we needed right here – schools, shops, parks, roads, restaurants and more – we became a self-sufficient community.
We were professional, educated and diverse (ethnically and politically) and still are today. In the early years, our city was brimmed with mostly condos, apartments and townhomes. Families moved up into single-family homes as they were built.
Then came Soka University – also in 2001 – adding a new dimension to our community with more culture, which made us different from the rest. We became a community of opportunity with cultural arts, youth sports and programs, public amenities, a wilderness park and so much more.
The way our city has grown over these past 15 years has been thoughtful, careful and with an eye on what’s around the corner. I commend past and current Council Members for their wisdom and foresight in ensuring measures are in place to preserve and enhance this great community for generations to come.
In honor of Aliso Viejo’s 15th anniversary, our city will host a special celebration on Saturday, July 2nd from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center, 29 Santa Barbara Drive.

People of all ages will enjoy this free community celebration that will feature bounce houses, family games and activities as well as hamburgers and birthday cake. It will be a party you, your family and friends won’t want to miss.
I am grateful to have lived in this wonderful city for the last nine years and look forward to celebrating this tremendous milestone with you on July 2nd.
