Since Pokémon Go has taken the world by storm, Mission Viejo parks have been brimming with people on the hunt for creatures and treasure. While the City is elated folks are exploring its many parks, the public should remember to adhere to park hours.
City of Mission Viejo parks are open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., so be sure to catch your Pokémon before closing time.
Here are some other tips to keep you safe while enjoying the Pokémon craze:
Be aware of your surroundings: That Eevee may look like it’s on the trail, but distance and terrain can be deceiving. Stay aware of your surroundings, including other players. Move off trails to do your battle and keep pathways, exits and equipment clear. With many parks near busy streets, be sure to look before you chase.
Respect private property: Parks are often neighbors to private homes and businesses. If you see a Snorlax dash into a neighboring yard, let it go! Besides, parks are great places for relaxation and reflection too. Pack a picnic basket and blanket to enjoy some fun family time.
Remember park rules: Like private property, stay out of areas that are closed to the public, which includes City of Mission Viejo parks between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. During operating hours, you can enjoy more than 50 Mission Viejo parks and trails that have a range of terrain types, perfect for playing Pokémon Go. This event, which begins at 2 p.m., is sponsored by the City’s Community of Character Committee and coincides with August’s character trait of “self-control.”
Starring Blake Lively and Harrison Ford, the film’s gripping story promises to lead to a fascinating discussion about self-control, aging and immortality immediately following the screening.
The film is rated PG-13 and will be shown on a theater-size screen with theater-style seating and surround-sound at 200 Civic Center, just across from the Mission Viejo Library.

What do you get when you mix several volunteers with hundreds of plants and a kid named Jake? An Eagle Scout in the making, of course.
To obtain the highest ranking in the scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America, Jake Ciccone of Troop #615 organized 15 volunteers to plant 800 drought-tolerant plants on the slope area at Aurora Park.
Jake’s project has helped to beatify this park nestled near Marguerite and Alicia parkways.
The City appreciates Jake’s hard work and invites other scouts to conduct similar projects in town. For more information, call 949-470-3085.
