The Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee welcomes...
Rachel’s Challenge For Middle & High School Students*
Powerful video/audio footage of Rachel's life and the Columbine tragedy holds students spell-bound during a one-hour presentation that motivates them to make positive changes in the way they treat others. The program features Rachel’s Challenge Speaker Dave Gamache who will provide an influential understanding and appreciation of Rachel and her challenges for us all “to make a difference”.
Wednesday, March 24th 7:00 pm Norman P. Murray Community & Senior Center 24932 Veterans Way *Parents are invited!
FREE! For more information or to R.S.V.P., please call Police Services at (949) 470-8433
The City of Mission Viejo’s Community of Character Committee, with support from the Orange County Sheriff's Department, has been working to bring Rachel's Challenge to the community through a series of events during the school year.
Newhart Middle School has hosted the Rachel’s Challenge program and Principal George Knights says it is a powerful program with remarkable results. “Once you start to focus on Caring and Kindness, it snowballs and students really want to make a difference.”

CELL PHONE USE NOT ALLOWED DURING SCHOOL
This is a reminder that cell phone use by students is prohibited during school hours. When students become ill during the school day, we ask that they report to the health office for assistance. We have had a few instances recently where students are texting their parents to pick them up without first coming to the health office. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and for reminding your kids!
9TH GRADE REGISTRATION INFO COMING FROM DHHS
On Wednesday, March 10, the DHHS Academic Advisors will be on campus presenting incoming 9th grade registration information to all 8th graders through their English classes. Each 8th Grade English class is to report to the Blue Commons first thing after the bell for their high school registration information.

PAPER DONATIONS WELCOME!
This year with budget cuts and money being tight, our supply budget will most likely run out before the end of the year. Because of this, NHMS will most likely be short on copy paper. Any donations of copy paper (even just a ream) would be welcome and much appreciated! You can donate to your child’s teacher or to the office…it will all be put to good use. Thank you in advance for any assistance you can give us in this area.
MARQUEE BIRTHDAY WISH
Parents:
You now have the opportunity to place your child’s birthday message on the marquee for one day while helping our Associated Student Body raise funds for student needs and activities throughout the school year. The cost is only $20.00 to make your child’s birthday extra special. Space is limited – the message will read: “Happy Birthday (first name, last name)”, or simply the first name if preferred. You may download a Marquee Birthday Wish form to fill out from our school loop page, or pick one up in the front office. Please return the bottom portion of the form to the office with a $20.00 check (per child) payable to NHMS ASB.

About Stars and Stripes
Started in 1996 by Dick Gebhard, then a board member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Orange County, Stars and Stripes has grown from a new idea by a creative visionary, to one of the most significant and innovative charity fundraisers in the country.
The event has donated over $10 million to Southern California charities over its 13-year history and over the past three years has expanded its list of beneficiaries which this year includes: Orangewood Children’s Foundation, Boy Scouts of Los Angeles and Miracles for Kids. Additionally, Stars & Stripes gives back to communities in the Cabo San Lucas area, including contributing a fleet of new ambulances to the local Red Cross, providing metical care to children in need and aiding in the construction of a new state-of-the-art medical facility in San Ignacio. This year, monies raised will also benefit Mexico’s Green Scholarship Program.
Affectionately known as “The Feel Good Tournament,” Stars and Stripes seeks to be an effective charity fundraiser which creates lasting memories for both the organizations it assists and those participating in the event each year.

Sophomores:
„« All sophomores are required to take the English portion of the test on Tuesday, March 16 and the Math portion on Wednesday, March 17. Students must take and pass both sections of the test to meet graduation requirements.
„« Sophomores will eat lunch at 12:40 p.m. Please encourage your student to eat a nutritious lunch. The cafeteria will be open for sophomores only on test days.
„« Sophomores must quickly report to their assigned room at the end of lunch at 1:15.
„« Prior to the test days, room assignments will be posted on the Guidance Office and Library windows.
