Mel Chambers is the newly elected Ocean Institute Chairman of the Board. He has been involved with the Institute since 1989, and has been a board member since 1991.
In his words, “I’m excited about this opportunity to better serve the Institute, and feel few fields of study are more important to the future than science, technology, engineering, math and history. Using the ocean, children are inspired to learn. At the Ocean Institute ‘Experience is the Teacher.’”
Chambers is Chairman of the Board of the Chambers Group, Inc., an environmental planning firm he established in 1978 headquartered in Santa Ana. He is a long-time Dana Point resident.
He has stayed active with the Institute, because he is excited about the unique hands-on immersion programming to teach children. He said, “We have been inspiring discovery since 1977 and in that time, we have developed engaging programs that get kids excited about science and history and they take that excitement back to their families and schools.”
