For the third year, Faith Episcopal Church invites local cooks to put their best chili forward to compete for four awards to be offered in the annual Tongues of Fire Chili Cook-off on Saturday, May 14 from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Faith Episcopal Church is located at 27802 El Lazo Road in Laguna Niguel adjacent to the Ziggurat Federal Building.
Organizers are seeking both chili entries and event attendees to sample chili from the community. Chili entry categories include: True Chili, Anything Goes Chili, Chili Verde or Veggie/Vegan Chili and there are prizes for all winning entries, as well as a Best of Show recognition for the overall best concoction.
Chili entrant fee is $10 and chili must be prepared off site and made from scratch. The public is welcome to attend free of charge and sample the competing entries at $1 per taste. Craft beers from Stadium Brewery, wines from Four Lanterns Winery (Paso Robles) and Young’s Market, plus grilled hot dogs and brats will also be available.
This family-focused event will also feature activities for kids including a bounce house, fire engine tours and a visit from the firefighting team from Fire Station 39, face painting, and a gymnastics performance.
Crafters from Dana Point Women’s Club will offer their creations for sale. Danny Lulu will provide live music. The event kicks off at 3:00 p.m., and concludes with an awards ceremony and drawings from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.
