Got drugs?  If so, Mission Viejo Police Services wants to help you get rid of them.

The Sheriff’s Department, in partnership with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, is hosting a prescription-disposal event on Saturday, September 26 as part of National Prescription Medication Take-Back Day.

Police Services will host a drive-through drop-off location from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the City Hall parking lot at 200 Civic Center.  There is no cost to drop off medications, and people can dispose of drugs free of charge and remain anonymous.

The public has embraced the opportunity these take-back events provide to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

For more information about National Prescription Medication Take-Back Day, call 949-470-8433. Information about other south county events is available here.

Composting is a simple and natural way to turn your yard and food waste into valuable organic fertilizer for your garden. The workshop will also focus on vermi-composting (worm composting). Compost and vermi-composting containers will be available for purchase or order.  Discount vouchers will be provided to folks who register and attend the workshop.

Registration is limited and required for the workshop. To register today, call 949-470-3010 or emailGreenMV@cityofmissionviejo.org. (See more about composting here.)

Dog park Pavers

If you want to leave your mark on Mission Viejo, consider purchasing a $100 paver for the “Canine Walk of Fame” at La Paws Park.

The pavers will be installed in February/March at the 6-acre dog park located at the eastern edge of the City along Felipe Road just south of Gilleran Park. La Paws Park features separate turf areas for small and large dogs, a single-dog area, fencing and a gravel parking lot.

Paver donations are helping to pay for dog park amenities like benches, chairs, tables, drinking fountains and shade structures.

Pavers are available through December 31 and can be purchased via cash or check at Mission Viejo City Hall, 200 Civic Center; the Mission Viejo Animal Services Center, 28095 Hillcrest; or online by clicking on “donations” at http://www.cityofmissionviejo.org/dogpark.

Each paver can have up to three lines of text, each line 15 characters long.

Purchasing a paver gives residents a simple and lasting way to leave their mark on La Paws Park.

Mission For the Armed Forces croppedThe public is invited to honor local military veterans while enjoying a riveting football game during the Mission for the Armed Forces Tribute on Friday, September 18.

The nationally recognized Mission Viejo High School Football team will pay homage to more than 70 local veterans and active military personnel during its game against Norco High School.

The players will honor veterans and troops by donning camouflage jerseys with their names etched on the back. The Sea to Shining Sea Flag, which has flown over Ground Zero and been displayed at Arlington National Cemetery, will signify the event’s importance.

The game begins at 7:30 p.m. at the high school located at 25025 Chrisanta Drive. Community members are invited to enjoy an exciting football game and memorable recognition.

Tickets, which are available at the gate, are $10 for adults (and kids 13+) and $5 for children 12 and under.

For more information, call 949-837-7722 or visit http://www.missionfootball.com. (See video from last year’s game here.)
