“The Speech that Changed the World” will be a discussion of the vision of education expressed in a speech given by Soka University’s founder Daisaku Ikeda, at Teachers College, Columbia University 20 years ago.
That speech was entitled “Thoughts on Education for Global Citizenship,” and it was through this speech that Ikeda presented a message of hope that is relevant to our current times, rife with divisive rhetoric. The vision of education that Ikeda outlined in his speech has inspired many change makers around the world.
The keynote speaker, Dr. Betty Reardon, is a world-renowned leader in the field of Peace and Human Rights Education. Dr. Reardon’s work embodies a critical intellectual inquiry and profound belief in the ability of human beings to build peaceful societies. She has won numerous awards for her efforts in peace and education.
This event will be moderated by former Under-Secretary-General & High Representative of the United Nations, Anwarul K. Chowdhury, who will be engaging in dialogue with Dr. Reardon about education for global citizenship.
This event is presented by the SUA Graduate School students, who hope to generate interest and awareness about education and its role in fostering global citizens.
