WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 15, 9 a.m. – noon
WHAT: Armed with reusable bags and buckets, thousands will defend Orange County’s bays, inland waters and beaches from coastal pollution on Coastal Cleanup Day – the world’s largest trash cleanup. Artist Katie Peck will showcase artwork on the sand, featuring birds and marine life made from collected trash.
WHY: Trash from inland communities travels through storm drains and rivers, polluting our waterways and beaches. Trash cleanups stand as a last line of defense to prevent this debris from polluting local waters and harming wildlife.
Last year, more than 7,000 Orange County volunteers collected more than 70,000 pounds of trash and recyclable materials during this three-hour event across Orange County. This year, Coastkeeper expects to remove even more trash from local waterways, to preserve and protect our coast.
