Dana Hills High School shortstop Luke Williams and pitcher/first baseman Marrick Crouse were selected last week in the Major League Baseball Draft. Williams was drafted in the third round by the Philadelphia Phillies – the 83rd pick overall – while Crouse was drafted in the eleventh round by the Toronto Blue Jays as the 332nd pick.
Williams went into this year’s draft having become Dana Hills High School’s all-time stolen base leader. He enjoyed a productive season on the field in which he batted .315, hit four home runs and collected 19 RBIs, stole 26 bases and had an on-base percentage of .454. Drafted as a shortstop, Williams is a versatile fielder who can capably handle the ball and play any position.
Crouse was drafted after pitching his way to an 8-4 record with a 1.64 ERA, 75 strike outs, and five complete games this season. He also enjoyed a .344 batting average, collected 16 RBIs, had a .390 on-base percentage and scored 11 runs.
Both Williams and Crouse are excited about the opportunity that lies before them and are eager to see what the future holds in store.
