Volunteers provide free home repairs for Retired Marine

Date:

HomeStrong USA and Cox Communications provide free home repairs to

U.S. Marine Corps veteran in Lake Forest, Calif.

Barry Simon is a 74-year-old retired Marine who completed two tours in Japan from 1959-1963. He purchased his home in Lake Forest in 1966 and currently lives there with his wife, Gilberta.  On Tuesday, May 7, 2019,  a team of Cox volunteers joined  HomeStrong USA in making free home repairs to  Barry’s home.  This was done through HomeStrong USA’s Heroes Home Repair program.

Cox volunteers painted the exterior of U.S. Marine Corps veteran Barry Simons’ home and replacing damaged fascia boards near the rafters, a broken garage door, damaged posts for the patio cover, wood siding, and rafter tails. They also repaired Simon’s patio cover and window frames.

These home repairs are made possible through a $15,000 grant from Cox to HomeStrong USA.  Cox Communications and its employees support military families and veterans all year long through funding and volunteerism. As part of Cox’s philanthropic efforts, Cox employees selected HomeStrong USA’s “Heroes Home Repair” program to provide immediate relief and repairs to the home of a veteran.

HomeStrong USA was formed in 1999 and is a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. Its mission is to create, grow, and sustain healthy communities across the nation through innovative housing opportunities, comprehensive education and counseling, and economic development. In 2014 HomeStrong USA launched its Heroes Home Repair grant program. This veteran home repair program brings immediate attention to active duty and veteran homeowners.
