Thank you to all who came to our 8th Grade Awards last night and congratulations to all of our students who were recognized. There is only one week left of school and the students are very excited for summer. Please take note of the important Dates to Remember below to ensure a smooth end to our school year.

LIBRARY BOOKS AND TEXTBOOKS

All library books need to be returned by Friday, June 12. Replacement fees must be paid for all misplaced books.

All textbooks need to be returned by Friday, June 12 with the exception of math textbooks that may be checked in the day of the math final. All fines need to be cleared before the close of the school year.

YEARBOOKS

Yearbook Signing Party

8th graders are invited to the yearbook signing party. It will be on Tuesday, June 16, after school (3:30 to 4:30) in the MPR. 8th graders can pick up their yearbook and leave or stay and sign yearbooks. 8th graders can purchase a yearbook at the party if they have not bought one yet. They will be $45 cash. We only have 40 yearbooks to sell; it will be first come, first serve. Students with library debts will not be able to attend the party. Be sure to clear all debts before Tuesday.

Yearbook Distribution

All 6th and 7th graders will get their yearbooks in homeroom on Wednesday, June 17. If there are yearbooks to be sold, then there will be a raffle on Wednesday for 6th and 7th graders to see who gets the opportunity to buy a yearbook.

Yearbook Safety

DJAMS will not replace lost or stolen yearbooks. Students should make sure to write their first and last name in their yearbook multiple times and always be aware of who is signing their yearbook and make sure to get it back.

WILD RIVERS TRIP

All 8th graders in good standing are invited to attend the Wild Rivers Field Trip on Thursday, June 18, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Park entry fees and transportation will be covered by ASB. Students will need to bring money for lunch. Be sure your child turns in a permission slip by Friday, June 12, to secure a seat on the bus. If your child needs to leave Wild Rivers early for graduation, please send a note in to the attention of Mrs. Vollebregt ASAP. We will make special arrangements to have your child ready for pick up at 1:00 p.m. If you have further questions, please email: kvollebregt@capousd.org.

**Please note: If your child has medication in our health office that he/she will need to take while attending Wild Rivers, please notify the Health Office as soon as possible. Thank you.

LATE START THURSDAY, JUNE 18

Please note that our last day of school, Thursday, June 18, will be a Late Start Day. HOWEVER, 8TH GRADERS GOING TO WILD RIVERS WATER PARK WILL NEED TO ARRIVE TO SCHOOL BY 8:45 A.M. IN ORDER TO TAKE ROLL AND BOARD THE BUS.

RECYCLING PROGRAM

DJAMS families have done a tremendous job with the recycling program at our school — our goal was met! Top donating homerooms for this end-of-the-year recycling program are Mrs. Zallar, Mr. Waterman, and Ms. Berndt. Thank you to everyone who made a difference for our environment.

BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB TO BE CLOSED JUNE 15-19

The Boys and Girls Club has notified us that they will be closed Monday, June 15, to Friday, June 19.

REGISTRATION PACKET PICK UP/ORIENTATION

As we near the end of the school year, our thoughts turn toward creating a smooth transition for next year. With that in mind, we want to bring some important dates to your attention. We have set up three days in August when you can come to Don Juan Avila Middle School to pick up your 2009-2010 registration packet.

Registration Packet Pick Up

Monday, August 10, 9 a.m. to noon

Tuesday, August 11, 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Wednesday, August 12, 9 a.m. to noon

It is important that you return your completed registration packets on your specified orientation date. Orientation is the time when your child will pick up his/her class schedule, take pictures, and purchase required materials, such as, P.E. clothes, yearbook, etc. Parents are to accompany their child through this process.
