Dear Parents,
To ensure a smooth transition from your child’s current grade to the next, please take note of the following important dates. We have arranged three days in early August when you will be able to come to Don Juan Avila Middle School to pick up your Registration/Orientation packet. The dates are:
Monday, August 10, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Tuesday, August 11, 2009 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Wednesday, August 12, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
We will have tables in the office lobby on those dates, with the Registration/Orientation packets available for parents. These packets are for returning Don Juan Avila Middle School students and incoming 6th graders.
It is very important that you return your completed packets on your Orientation date. At Orientation you will be picking up your child’s class schedule, taking school pictures, buying P.E. clothes, and purchasing yearbooks. The dates are:
8th Graders Tuesday, August 25, 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon
7th Graders Wednesday, August 26, 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon
6th Graders Thursday, August 27 , 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon
Students unable to attend Orientation during their scheduled time can come and register the week of September 1, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Attendance Office window. However, at this time the office will not be able to assist you with P.E. clothes, yearbook sales, or pictures as we will not have the same staff available as on the Orientation dates.
The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 8, 2009 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Our late start day will begin on Thursday, September 10, 2009. On Thursdays school begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. We look forward to working with you and your children.
CUSD VOLUNTEERS
Information regarding our volunteer policy is available at www.capousd.org. Click on “School Info” and scroll down to volunteers. Fingerprinting is required for all “Tier I” volunteers who have unsupervised contact with students. This includes drivers for field trips, chaperones on overnight trips, all coaching assistants for sports, and any volunteers who may work with students without being directly supervised by an employee during the school day. Please note that we no longer require TB testing for volunteers.
“Tier II” volunteers do not require fingerprinting. These are volunteers who do not work directly with students and/or those who are under the supervision of employees at all times (i.e. classroom volunteers who are always in the room with a teacher).
If you are a Tier I volunteer and have already completed fingerprinting, you will be issued a photo ID badge by the district. Information regarding processing badges is listed below. We are also hosting fingerprinting clinics at the district office to assist those who have not yet gone through the process (see below). Volunteers who have not yet completed fingerprinting need to allow approximately 2 weeks for fingerprint clearance before you are able to get your district ID badge. While the district will process badges in the fall, we highly recommend that you come in on one of the dates listed below as we will be able to accommodate you much quicker. Sumner Photography is working with us on these particular dates with multiple cameras and processors. Once we are back down to 1 camera and “self-sufficient” the process will be a little slower.
TIER I VOLUNTEER FINGERPRINTING
The Dana Point Mobile Livescan & Notary will be at the District Office Headquarters located at 33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano on July 13th, 14th and August 10th, 11th to process fingerprinting. The total cost for fingerprinting will be $42.00 and is payable by cash, personal check or money order – no credit cards. You may sign up for an appointment by visiting www.danapointlivescan-notary.com. Volunteers are welcome to contact other LiveScan processing centers for fingerprint clearance. You are also welcome to utilize alternative LiveScan services for fingerprinting if these dates do not work for you.
TIER I VOLUNTEER IDENTIFICATION BADGES
Tier I Volunteers who have already received fingerprint clearance can receive a district-issued photo identification badge on the dates below. Locations are throughout the district, so please read them carefully. Badges are processed between the hours of 9:00 am-12:00 pm and 1:00 pm-4:00 pm on a walk-in basis. No appointments are necessary.
