Dear Parents,

This is a reminder that next week you will need to come to Don Juan Avila Middle School to pick up your Registration/Orientation packet. The dates are:

Monday, August 10, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Tuesday, August 11, 2009 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Wednesday, August 12, 2009 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

We will have tables in the office lobby on those dates, with the Registration/Orientation packets available for parents. These packets are for returning Don Juan Avila Middle School students and incoming 6th graders.

It is very important that you return your completed packets on your Orientation date. At Orientation you will be picking up your child’s class schedule, taking school pictures, buying P.E. clothes, and purchasing yearbooks. The dates are:

8th Graders Tuesday, August 25, 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon

7th Graders Wednesday, August 26, 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon

6th Graders Thursday, August 27 , 2009 9:00 a.m. to noon

Students unable to attend Orientation during their scheduled time can come and register the week of September 1, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. to noon at the Attendance Office window. However, at this time the office will not be able to assist you with P.E. clothes, yearbook sales, or pictures as we will not have the same staff available as on the Orientation dates.

The first day of school for students is Tuesday, September 8, 2009 from 8:45 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. Our late start day will begin on Thursday, September 10, 2009. On Thursdays school begins at 9:45 a.m. and ends at 3:25 p.m. We look forward to working with you and your children.

Please Help Us Welcome Our Teachers and Staff Back to School with a Delicious Beach Party Luncheon!

Look for the sign-up sheets at Packet Pick-up

We’ll be transitioning our teachers back to the classroom with an End of the Summer Beach Party Luncheon on Friday, September 4.

You can help by signing up to bring food and drinks, or to help set up, clean up, and serve at the Luncheon. Sign–up sheets will be available at Packet Pick-up.

Volunteers Still Needed for 7th and 8th Grade Orientation Days

Parents, we still have a few open volunteer slots at Orientation on Tuesday, August 25, and Wednesday, August 26. Sign-up sheets will be available at packet pick-up next week. Please check your calendar and see if you can help us out on one of these mornings. Volunteer orientation starts at 8:30, with volunteers at their stations from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm. Bring your kids along, they are welcome to help out or hang out. It’s not hard and training is provided. Orientation simply cannot happen without the support of our great parent volunteers!

Contact Tori Greger, PTSA Orientation Chairperson, at tsgreger@cox.net, with questions or to volunteer.

Important note regarding the Ralph’s Community Contribution Program mentioned in the PTSA pages of the Back to School Packet:

Wait until after September 1, 2009, to register or update your account. Ralph’s is updating their system and is not accepting registrants during the month of August.
· All members who are currently enrolled in the Ralph’s Community Contribution Program will remain active until August 31, 2009, but will need to re-register after September 1st.

· New and returning participants can register for the new term at www.Ralphs.com.

This program raises money for DJAMS PTSA at no cost to you, so please sign up after September 1st and let’s start earning money for our school!

Looking forward to a great year,

Michelle Fleming

DJAMS PTSA President
