Tesoro High School’s Deputy Lance Christensen was named the 2009 California School Resource Officer of the Year, honoring him as the best in his field for his outstanding service to the Tesoro community.
An excellent role model who develops a positive rapport with students and parents, as well as a collegial relationship with teachers and staff, Christensen epitomizes the best in his field. He goes well beyond expectations and is fully committed to promoting a safe environment at Tesoro High School through classroom education, parent and community forums, mediation and intervention, and an open-door policy.
Christensen guides students toward making better, informed choices. He works at building long-lasting relationships, rather than simply doling out punitive consequences. Under his guidance, students develop an inner sense of responsibility and hold their peers accountable as well.
Deputy Christensen has been a featured speaker at community events, educating parents, students, and staff members about a myriad of at-risk behaviors including: My Space and internet safety, bullying & harassing, sexting, drugs trends/use/sales/symptoms, paraphernalia, alcohol and over-the-counter medication, drag racing, shoplifting, truancy, social cliques, run-aways, struggling youth, and fight clubs. He’s also channeled his passion for educating others about at-risk behaviors by teaching Law Enforcement Regional Occupation Program (ROP) classes to students who are interested in becoming policemen, probation officers, correction officers and detectives.
Deputy Christensen is a treasured resource in the Capistrano Unified School District. He not only serves as a uniformed officer liaison between community and school, he is a counselor, mentor, educator, trainer and friend as well.
