An Orange County Girl Scout is working on her Gold Award, the equivalent to the
honor of an Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. Rachel Kupfer-Weinstein, a 17-year-old junior in
high school, is a part of Dana Hills High School’s performing arts program, the South
Orange School of the Arts (SOCSA) and wants to utilize her passion for the arts in her
project.

The Gold Award is a leadership project that requires a minimum of 80 hours of
work and positively impacts the community. Rachel decided that she is going to have
her friends in the SOCSA program help her to lead five free workshops, one for each of
the most prominent arts: visual arts, acting, singing, dancing, and instrumental music.
These workshops will include a curriculum taught by high school students who have
gained experience in their art and time to work on numbers, pieces, or artwork prepared
before the workshops by the participants.
The numbers, pieces, or artwork worked on in the workshops will be put into a
showcase that will occur on the Sunday of the week of the workshops. There will be a
technical rehearsal the day before the show so that the students can get a feel for the
environment of the stage and the technical aspects of their performances.
When: Workshops: July 29th – August 2nd
Tech Rehearsal: August 3rd
Showcase: August 4th
Where: Workshops: Dana Hills High School (Tentative)
Tech Rehearsal & Showcase: Aliso Niguel High School (Tentative)
