Eighth Grade Dance/ Wild Rivers Waterpark Activity – DJAMS

Date:

UPCOMING 8TH GRADE ACTIVITIES

It is hard to believe that the end of the school year is just around the corner. To celebrate our eighth grade students’ completion of middle school, we will be hosting two special events: the Eighth Grade Dance and the Wild Rivers Waterpark Activity. We know that your child is excited about these important social events and may have questions about what to expect. Please review the following information with your child.

Eighth Grade Dance

Thursday, June 10, 2010, 6:00-8:00 p.m.
DJAMS MPR
1. The dance is ONLY for Don Juan Avila Middle School eighth grade students in good standing. Students with behavior problems (four or more discipline points) will not be able to attend this dance. Students have the option to work off points with the assistant principals.
2. Parent permission forms will be distributed through homeroom classes on Friday, June 4th. Students will return the signed permission slips Monday, June 7th through Wednesday, June 9th in the quad at lunch.
3. Students should wear something nicer than everyday school clothes. However, this is NOT a formal dance. School dress code still applies. Students who arrive and are in violation of dress code will be asked to wear PE clothing or asked to leave.
Girls should be dressed appropriately. Extreme styles are not permitted. Dresses must have straps, cover the midriff and lower back, have a length that falls 2 inches above the knee, and have no extreme slits.
Boys should wear long pants, a nice collared shirt, a sweater, or a sport coat. A tie is encouraged. Boys may not wear tuxedos. T-Shirts, shorts, and jeans are not allowed.
4. School and district standards of conduct apply at this event as they do at all school events.
5. All students must enter the dance by 6:15 p.m. There will be no early dismissals for the dance.
6. Professional photographs will be taken at the dance for $6.
7. Limousines and busses are not allowed and will not be permitted for student drop off or pick up. All students must be picked up by a parent or guardian immediately after the dance.
8. We ask that you make every effort to pick your child up promptly at 8:00 p.m. Any student not picked up by 8:30 p.m. will lose the privilege of attending the Wild Rivers field trip.

Wild Rivers Waterpark Activity

Tuesday, June 22, 2010
Wild Rivers Waterpark, Irvine.
1. The activity is ONLY for Don Juan Avila Middle School eighth grade students in good standing. Students with behavior problems (four or more discipline points) will not be able to attend this dance. Students have the option to work off points with the assistant principals. Wild Rivers will NOT admit DJAMS students to the park on June 22nd, if they have not been cleared by Mr. Wellikson or Ms. Roman.
2. All students are to report to their homeroom class for attendance at 8:45.
3. Departure time for the activity is 9:15 a.m. Our planned return time to DJAMS is 5:00 p.m. Students must provide their own transportation home from school.
4. The Associated Student Body will pay for the price of admission and the cost of busing.
5. Students may bring money to purchase food and eat inside the park.
6. No student may participate without a parent permission slip signed by a parent or guardian and returned to their homeroom by Friday, June 18, 2010.
7. It is recommended that students attending the activity wear their swimsuits to school under their school-appropriate attire. A beach towel and suntan lotion are advised. Beach chairs, radios, fins and boogie boards are NOT allowed by Wild Rivers Waterpark.
8. Please do not bring valuables to Wild Rivers. It is highly recommended that students bring money to secure their belongings in a locker.
9. Good behavior is essential on any school field trip, both on the bus and at the destination. Students may not leave the designated area during the day. The parent of any misbehaving student will be called to personally pick up the student.
We appreciate your support and understanding of these guidelines. This is an opportunity for the students to celebrate their success and enjoy time with their classmates before they move on to high school. Should you have questions regarding any of the year-end procedures, please do not hesitate to call the school at 362-0348.
