SEND A LETTER TO THE MAYOR
The Grodahl family won our Silent Auction item to have lunch with the Mayor of Laguna Niguel, Linda Lindholm. During their lunch, the Mayor explained a project that the city is working on where they would like some assistance and opinions from our Bergeson students. Mayor Lindholm has been very involved with the development of Laguna Niguel’s new City Hall complex (Crown Valley and Alicia). Building a City Hall complex was one of her main goals, and now the project is well under way. One of the finishing touches on the lobby will be a fossil centerpiece. The fossils they are choosing from were all unearthed during the building of the 73 toll road. The fossils came from the area where the 73 crosses Greenfield – very near the school.
Mayor Lindholm must make a recommendation for which fossil (or fossils) to use in the lobby. The choices are a saber-tooth tiger and a whale. The Mayor has a special request of Bergeson students. She would like the students’ help with making her recommendation to the city council. She’s asked the kids to send her their opinions about which fossil would be best in the lobby of City Hall. Should it be a saber-tooth tiger, whale, or maybe both? She’d like to hear what the Bergeson students think is the best choice and why.
If any students are interested in sharing their opinions with the Mayor, she would LOVE to hear from them (and hear SOON)! Who knows? You might be the person who writes the compelling letter which helps her to make her decision! You could write to the mayor at the address below or you could drop off your letter in our front office and Emily Grodahl will deliver them to the Mayors office.
The Honorable Linda Lindholm
City of Laguna Niguel

MISSING LIBRARY BOOKS
Calling all library books! Search the cupboards, the shelves, under the bed and under the couch. We are missing 205 library books from our school library and need to have them returned by this week. Unfortunately, the report card is not given to the student on the last day of school until the missing book is found or paid for.
BERGESON SUMMER ACADEMY
Let’s keep our kids studying during the summer so that they don’t loose their skills! We are pleased to host our 2nd year of the Bergeson Summer Academy for our current Kindergarten through 5th grade students from 9 – 11 AM, Monday through Thursday in two 2-week sessions starting on Monday, June 28. The program will be taught by Bergeson teachers and is a wonderful way to help students keep the great academic skills which they have built throughout the course of this school year. We will send a flyer home next week. The program will focus on Reading and Math. Classes will be kept small so that we can help to individualize instruction. Parents can register online at http://community-ed-capousd-ca.schoolloop.com/. Type “Bergeson” in the search bar to register. If you were interested in doing both the math program and the Summer Academy, you could schedule your math times before and after the academy times to extend the day.
