Last call…….do you (or your child) desire to become Roman Catholic next Easter?
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children/Teens
With the Easter season behind us, you may recall that the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the Church-approved manner by which adults who are either not baptized or have been baptized into another Christian denomination are sacramentally received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) or if already baptized in another Christian denomination, through a Profession of Faith. For children/teens ages 7-17, the same Rite is adapted to be age appropriate but remains the universal manner for being received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church. Reception into the Church through Baptism or Profession of Faith for children, teens or adults occurs on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil Liturgy, April 23, 2011. The preparation process for adults, teens or children who would like to be received into the Church at Easter, 2011, will be getting underway in early summer. Those who would like to participate, and are presently Registered members of Corpus Christi parish, are asked to contact Susie Hays at 389-9008, so that the necessary pre-enrollment paperwork can be assembled. Thanks.
Ever so slowly, we are at 14 scholarships so far… and 13 youth still hoping for your generosity!
The 2010 Youth Leadership Summit will be held August 16 – 20th at the Irvine Outdoor Education Center, a new one-of-a-kind facility located adjacent to Irvine Regional Park. High school students, who have been selected as Corpus Christi Youth leaders, will spend the week learning and practicing skills such as small group facilitation, peer helping, large group presenting, and more while exploring their faith and talents. They will also participate in teambuilding activities, including a ropes challenge course. The Youth Leadership Summit is just the beginning though, as Youth Leaders will serve the parish throughout the year as volunteers in our JAMS middle school youth ministry, in HAVEN high school youth ministry, at parish special events, and more. while continuing to build their leadership skills. The cost for each youth to attend the summit is $400.00 including lodging, food, activities, and supplies. Can you help sponsor/partially sponsor one of our youth? If so, please send your check to Fr. Fred…. THANK YOU!!! Thank you!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!
Our famiglia is gathering for ‘La Cena’ ….
On two Summer Saturday evenings, July 17th and August 14th. the famiglia of Corpus Christi will gather alfresco on our lawn to fill the night with food, beverage, song and dance. On two balmy Summer nights our parish will gather, as Tuscan villagers have gathered for centuries, to celebrate the familial bonds that weave us together. ‘La Cena’ (Lah…Chain…Ahhhh) is the communal meal of Summer celebration, of taking pleasure in each other’s company, of languorous conversations accompanied by ample food, wine, beverage, song and dance. ‘La Cena’ is all about our famiglia sharing table space, passing bowls of pasta and sizzling platters of sausage, breaking bread with one another and sharing famiglia stories along with favorite appetizers and desserts. Commencing immediately following the 5:00 p.m. Mass, ‘La Cena’ will feature full evenings focused on the leisurely meal and those who gather to enjoy it. While a movie will be available for the bambinos downstairs, there will not be any organized activities for children…they are welcome to romp and improvise their play as village children are known to do. ‘La Cena’ participants are asked to bring their own appetizers with which to make new friends as well as a desert for sharing….and bragging! Wine and summer cocktails will be available for purchase but participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite vino with which to quench summer thirsts. Replacing both the former ‘Summer Experience’ and the ‘Wine and Food Festival’, the two opportunities of ‘La Cena’ are the primary parish fund-raising events benefiting the Building Fund. Mindful of tight budgets, each evening of ‘La Cena’ is a modest $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for bambinos (2-10), infants under 2 are free. To ensure adequate table space on our lawn, please complete the Reservation Form available on the Concierge Shelves and return it to the Parish Offices via USPS (27231 Aliso Viejo Parkway, AV, CA 92656) or via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory Collection.
Now that the graduations are pretty much over how about celebrating and getting into the swing of summer by getting out of the house….and coming on down to Stadium Brewing in Town Center THIS Thursday, June 24th from 5pm to 8pm for our next Corpus Christi Diner’s Night! Mark your calendars…and bring the coupon inserted in this Bulletin. Thanks!
Happy Father’s Day Weekend!!!
Next weekend, June 26-27, the basket will be placed on the altar for your consideration of the Universal Church Collection, frequently called ‘Peter’s Pence’. This special collection combines Peter’s Pence with Catholic Relief Services Collection. CRS assists the poor and disadvantages by alleviating human suffering, promoting development of all people and fostering charity and justice internationally. Peter’s Pence promotes and supports the works of our Holy Father, enabling him to respond with emergency financial assistance to those who suffer as a result of war, oppression and natural disasters throughout the world. As always, your generosity is appreciated. Thanks.
Please note that our next collection of food for South County Outreach is NEXT weekend, June 26-27. Please bring your non-perishable food items with you and deposit them in the special hamper that will be on the courtyard. South County Outreach continues to be EXCEEDINGLY grateful for our faithful gifting of food for the past year…so don’t forget….in two weeks, we get to help our neighbors have a little more on their tables. THANKS!
A Parish Registration starts every conversation. Are you Registered?
Not a week goes by when we do not have a whole bunch of inquiries to our Parish Offices about Baptisms, First Communions, Marriages, etc….and it can end up being a disappointment to those who have NOT taken the time to become Registered (and participating) Parishioners. Our policy is that conversations about Sacramental plans can ONLY begin AFTER a person has been Registered and Participating within the parish for a minimum of three months (some parishes require six months of participation…in comparison we are pretty generous!) So, please, this is a gentle reminder of the importance of getting Registered…not to mention if you leave your purse, wallet or camera in the Grand Hall, it would be nice to be able to contact you! Registration Forms are available on the Concierge Shelves.
With summer vacations, misplaced Stewardship envelopes….if you are looking for a possible way to simplify your Weekly/Monthly Stewardship/Offertory support of Corpus Christi you may wish to join a growing group of parishioners who simply enroll their VISA or MasterCard with OUR Parish Office for monthly billing. You tell us how much you wish charged to your card, your information stays in OUR Office, we do not have an agency do the inputting of information, you get a handy record of your donations for IRS purposes…and you gain valuable points if you are enrolled in one of their Reward programs. If interested, please just give a call to Susie Hays at 389-9008 for more information or to get started.
A HUGE Thank You to all the men, women and munchkins who came out last weekend for our SPRING CLEANING. Windows were scrubbed the kitchen cleaned of four years worth of baked on grime, floor cracks scrapped and vacuumed, bronze polished, weeds pulled, tree limbs trimmed, concrete power-washed, tables sanded and washed, chairs cleaned of gum….all in all, a wonderful sacrifice by those who came out. THANK YOU EVRYT, VERY much to each and every one of you…especially the kids who ate the most massive 3-patty burgers the civilized world has ever seen!!! Special thanks to Marc and Maribeth for organizing and coordinating the morning.
Our POPs ministry (dads with their kids) is heading to an Anaheim Angels versus the Texas Rangers game
on July 31: Game Time: 6:05 pm.; Tailgate Time: 4:30 pm. Tickets are $16 with an additional $5 if you want to come early for the ‘Tailgater’ of hot dogs, potato salad and soft drinks. We have 30 tickets to start; dads can buy these tickets or buy their own, but still participate in the tailgater for $5. Reservation forms are available on the Concierge Shelves.
Corpus Christi’s Cub Scout pack 700 is planning to have an exhibition of their brand new Pack 700 Pinewood Derby Track on June 26th in our Lower Hall. It is the ‘granddaddy’ of pinewood derby tracks and the boys are very proud of having earned every bit of the nearly $5000 that it cost to buy. The PWD race is a highlight of our program and is a lot of fun!! For more information about our Cub Scout Pack, please give a call to Frances Outhwait at 933-9904. Thanks.
For your summer reading enjoyment, the Book Club recommends A Change in Altitude by Anita Shreve and/or Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford. We hope to see you on Monday, August 2, at 7:00 PM in Room 4. (They are skipping July due to summer conflicts.)
