Cox Sponsors Rewards Celebration

Date:

On Tuesday, December 7, Cox Communications sponsored a special event for

members from the Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley. “Operation Holiday

Homework” is the Clubs’ educational rewards program, which provides members

an opportunity to shop for their entire family.

Every school day, Club members  participate in Power Hour – a homework help

and tutoring program targeting members age 6-18. As members stay on task,

quietly and respectfully, they receive daily points. These points get tallied up

throughout the year and members can use them to purchase presents during

the Operation Holiday Homework event.

This year the event returned with an in person event with health and safety

Measurers to protect all members and volunteers. The students pre-shopped for

gifts via a catalog. In rounds, students entered the festive room at the Bell

Tower Regional Community Center and were greeted by volunteers, including Cox

employees who assisted students with retrieving their gifts and provided gift

wrapping services at checkout.

For Cox California’s new Senior Vice President and Region Manager Ingo Hentschel,

this was his first-time volunteering at Operation Holiday Homework. “This

event really got me into the holiday spirit, and I love sharing in the excitement that

these hard-working students have when collecting their gifts for their families. It’s a

good reminder of what this time of year is all about.”

Students were also able to pose for photos with Santa and pick up snacks.  For

many families, these are the only gifts shared during their holiday celebrations.  This

year 85 members participated in Operation Holiday Homework where they

received nearly 400 gifts for their families.

“Operation Holiday Homework is a rewards celebration to encourage members to

put education first. At Operation Holiday Homework you can see the excitement,

pride, and sense of accomplishment in the member’s faces. Thank you to partners

like Cox Communications for supporting Operation Holiday Homework,” said Nicole

Watson, associate executive director for Boys & Girls Clubs of Capistrano Valley.
