Corpus Christi Christian Community FKB – Aliso Viejo

Date:

August 7-8, 2010

You may be rightfully pleased and proud that on the weekend of our Missionary presentation, Corpus Christi collected $5,000 in the Second Collection efforts, which has been sent to the Diocese of Orange Missionary Co-op for their disbursal to Dr. Geetha’s outreach. She recently wrote: “Dear Friends: I sincerely thank Father Fred and all of you for giving me the opportunity to share about our mission work in India. You have been exceptionally kind and very generous to the missions. I thank you on behalf of the many needy that we serve in the interior villages of India. Your help and sacrifice will mean a lot to us and we are very grateful to you. Your kindness will be remembered always. Please keep us in your valuable prayers. Thanks a million. To know more about our mission work, please visit our website: www.fcnindia.org With Love and Prayers, Dr. Geetha Yeruva”

Story Time will be taking a nap for awhile….
Please note that with Peggy Armenta’s impending departure from the position of Faith Formation for Children and Families, some of our previously scheduled events and activities may need to be altered. This is the case with this coming Monday’s (August 9th) Story Time, normally shared by Peggy. Until further notice, ‘Story Time’ will be taking a nap and not offered.

A time of change and transition is upon us:

As you know it is my nature and policy to keep people in the loop of any new developments within the life of our community, thus I am writing you with the news that last week Peggy Armenta shared with me that she had been offered, and has chosen to accept, a new position at Serra Catholic School, one involving their day care program as well as other creative components that support the whole Serra Catholic School program. Being a Diocesan school, she maintains her pension and years-of-service standing but she will be only a 7-minute drive from home and the hours will allow her much needed familial time with her sons. Needless to say, Serra Catholic is in recess for the summer season…and a summer vacation is a big bonus and change from parish life that keeps on going regardless of the season! Briefly recovering from a very successful Theater Camp, Peggy will complete her responsibilities with the Middle School version and will also oversee the August Sacramental Prep Presentation. We will host a ‘parish opportunity’ following the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, August 28th so that we may individually express our gratitude and love for Peggy’s years of service amongst us. I am proud of the program of faith formation that Peggy has helped to craft; she has instilled it with love and sensitivity. As well, Peggy and our parish have walked together through powerfully uplifting as well as some unsettling times and while saddened at her departure, I believe this is a very good and positive step for Peggy and her family….one for which she has been prepared by her years with us and her interactions with each of you. One of our High School Girl Scouts will be offering a special ‘High School Survival’ seminar:
Will you be new to high school this fall? Are you unsure about what to expect? If so, come join me, Stephanie Ploof, on Saturday, August 28th and learn how to “survive” high school. I am a high school senior who can show you that high school is not scary at all. Learn some time management strategies, how to get involved, and some advice from current high school students. This will be a day long retreat/seminar from 10 am – 4 pm. Lunch will be provided. Cost is $10. Contact Stephanie Ploof at (949)716-7843 or avstephanie93@yahoo.com. Registration forms are on the concierge table, please return them to the parish office no later than Wednesday, August 25th.

Our Summer Sacramental Prep Session approaches…
A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to attending any Sacramental Prep Sessions and/or the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today would be attending the November Prep session, not the August session….followed by another call after the session to schedule a date for their child’s reception of Sacraments….not register and schedule at the same time.)

Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, August 21st at 2:30 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement. You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. Pre-registration is necessary (no drop-ins), please contact Susie Hays at 389-9008 to receive the necessary paperwork.

It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.

This is it…the final LA CENA of 2010 is NEXT Saturday….
The task of re-invention, of constantly creating fresh experiences and opportunities to bring our community together, is never-ending. Over the years our major fund-raisers have been Dinner Dances, Proms, Galas and Wine and Food Festivals. We have gone from a tent at the AV Golf Course to the local Holiday Inn to SOKA University to hosting within our own Grand Hall. Almost 450 people came out this weekend for our first ‘La Cena’ (Lah…Chain…Ahhhh) of the summer. Stripped of all the confusing add-ons that can sometimes clutter an event, La Cena is a California version of the Tuscan village communal meal of Summer celebration. No auctions or raffles, no assigned seating or speeches or presentations….just our Corpus Christi family taking pleasure in each other’s company The evening is designed for casual conversations accompanied by ample food, wine, beverage, song and dance. ‘La Cena’ is all about our famiglia sharing table space, passing bowls of pasta and sizzling platters of sausage, breaking bread with one another and sharing famiglia stories along with favorite appetizers and desserts. Our SECOND (and last) La Cena, Saturday, August 14th, will be identical to the first , kicking-off immediately after the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that while a Good Shepherd supervised movie will be available for the bambinos downstairs, there will not be any organized activities for children…they are welcome to romp and improvise their play as village children are known to do. ‘La Cena’ participants are asked to bring their own appetizers with which to make new friends as well as a dessert for sharing….and bragging! Wine and summer cocktails will be available for purchase but participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite vino, or non-alcoholic beverage with which to quench summer thirsts. Our ‘La Cena’ evenings/meals are the primary parish fund-raising events benefiting the Building Fund. Mindful of tight budgets, each evening of ‘La Cena’ is a modest $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for bambinos (2-9), infants under 2 are free. Please complete the Reservation Form available on the Concierge Shelves. See you NEXT SATURDAY….but only if you make your reservations before this Wednesday!!!!!

Anticipating ‘La Cena’ NEXT Saturday on August 14th….a couple of things to remember so that everything goes even smoother than it did last weekend. *Our kitchen has NO ROOM to hold or store any appetizers or desserts in need of refrigeration. If you bring such items, please make sure you bring your own ice chest as well. *Desserts should come ‘pre-sliced’ and placed on the LARGE dessert table under the canopies. *Appetizers can be used to help claim your seats or table space…just wrap them securely in foil and leave them on YOUR table while you attend Mass. *We need about 15 adult volunteers (18+) to assist in the kitchen on Saturday, the 14th from about 3:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m., perhaps someone who enjoys making events happen…who wants to perhaps oversee future events????? *Also, keep in mind that there are no ‘assigned seats’, guests are free to come early and individually mark off their individual seats for themselves and guests….probably anytime after 2:00 p.m. on the 14th the tables and seats will be available for claiming. Thanks….. see you on August 14th!!!!

Are you seeking a job, a true calling, or both? The healthcare industry has a myriad of opportunities and career paths for those looking for fulfilling and meaningful work. We are so pleased to have our fellow parishioner Linda Johnson, Vice President of Patient Care and Chief Nursing Officer of Mission Hospital, to discuss a variety of medical professional careers, especially the top professions for job growth, and the educational requirements for each. Linda Johnson brings her rich experience of 34 years in clinical and leadership positions in the hospital, community health and outreach to her presentation entitled: “Finding Your Calling in Healthcare”. In her informative and inspiring talk, she will describe a multitude of career and job opportunities at the hospital, while weaving in the history and heritage of the Sisters of St. Joseph and their faithful legacy of healthcare as a calling. We invite you to join the NETS ministry on Thursday, August 19th at 7:30 p.m., to explore the possibilities of your calling to work in healthcare field. Please RSVP by contacting Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715.

The Dormitio (falling-asleep) of Mary – The Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary on August 15 is an opportunity for us to gather in remembrance of the special relationship God established with one of our own, Mary. Having opened herself fully to bring Jesus into our world, Mary became the first of our Saints and on August 15th we commemorate our faith-guided understanding that, following her death, Jesus, being the Son of God, could and presumably would have preserved his mother’s body from experiencing the ravages of decay and gifted her with the ‘first fruits’ by ‘assuming’ her into heaven, body and soul. The Solemnity will be celebrated at ALL our Masses next weekend.
