Welcome back! It’s finally here! We can’t wait to see your children and start a new school year here at Marian Bergeson Elementary School.
Make sure to look for new families that you can meet and welcome to our community. Bergeson School is a special place because of YOU and your awesome children!
WELCOME BACK CELEBRATION
Our Welcome Back Celebration and Class List Posting will happen here at school on Tuesday, September 7 at 3 PM. Bring your checkbook so that you can join our PTA and the Bergeson Foundation at this event, too. We have a special gift for families who are able to join early. The PTA will be providing free popcorn and popsicles and you’ll get a chance to see many of your favorite Bergeson friends! See you there!
THE FIRST DAY!
Wednesday is the first day of school and we can’t wait to see our new and returning Bulldogs! For all students in 1st – 5th grade, Wednesday is a minimum day from 7:45 – 11:50 AM. We will meet on the playground for our first flag ceremony. Kindergarteners and their parents will have a 1 hour orientation day on Wednesday. Parent attendance is mandatory.
Early-Bird: 7:45 – 8:45 AM
Late-Bird: 9:15 – 10:15 AM
After drop-off on Wednesday, please join us in the MPR for coffee and a breakfast item. Meet a new friend, say hello to neighbors and to our principal, Mrs. Scholl.

ANNUAL BEAUTIFICATION DAY
A big thank you to Amy and Karl David for organizing this special day! There were many families who came to school to help beautify the campus before school starts. You’ll notice new plants, upgraded planters, painted curbs, the vegetable garden trimmed, gates fixed, in between portables cleaned out and other general clean up projects which were done by this hard-working group. We truly, truly appreciate the time and talents of the following families: Mootchnik, Tinsley, Landa, Swindell, Woodie, D’Agostino, Casper, Locke, Nadolski, Faigin, Stewart, Gerard, David. It was a labor of love for our school and we appreciate you!
ONE MORE BEAUTIFICATION DAY
If you have any time on Saturday morning (tomorrow), Amy and Karl David will lead one more Beautification Day from 9 AM – 12 noon. Even if you can give one or two hours to make our school beautiful for the first day, it would be greatly appreciated. They will be cleaning out 3 or 4 large planters and some other general clean up projects. Unfortunately with the budget cuts in the schools, the basics get done but not much more so we appreciate any help that you can give. Thank you to our generous Bergeson Foundation for donating some of the supplies to beautify our school.
THANK YOU FOR HONORING CLASS PLACEMENTS
As educators, we know that it is imperative to have balanced classes that consider, among other things academic ability, behavior, responsibility, gender and parental involvement. Our students are heterogeneously grouped at all grade levels with consideration given to interests, learning styles and above all, academic needs. Our primary obligation is to create instructional environments that maximize the educational opportunities for all students. Please understand that all of our teachers at Bergeson work together to ensure that the curriculum is based on the CA Content Standards and that all children receive an excellent education. We work very hard to consider each child’s individual needs when we form classes and we ask that you will trust our professional judgment. Sometimes the number of students who show up in the fall may be different from what we anticipated, which may necessitate adding a teacher or combining classes. For this reason, all class placements are considered preliminary for the first two weeks of school until we have a clearer picture of our enrollment. Parent requests for classroom changes will not be considered until after this initial period. At that time, any requests must be made in writing to the principal and the school will determine the appropriate placement. Thank you for your patience as we settle into a wonderful new school year!
FREE BACKPACKS OFFERED TO BERGESON STUDENTS
Please contact the school office if your child would benefit from a free backpack filled with basic school supplies. These backpacks were generously donated by Saddleback Church.
FRIDAY IS PATRIOT DAY CELEBRATION
Wear red, white and blue on Friday to celebrate Patriot’s Day where we remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.
STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP
As you are no doubt aware, our parking lot can get very congested, especially on the first day of school! Parents should always follow the arrows and the designated traffic flow in the parking lot. There are 4 drive-thru lanes in the main parking lot where students will exit on the right side of the car and walk forward to the cross walk. Never walk through cars in the parking lot. Additionally, the Y/North parking lot is for parking only. This is not a drive-thru lane. The exit is blocked until 7:45 AM. Additionally, parents should NEVER leave their cars unattended in traffic lanes or talk on cell phones while driving through the parking lot. Thank you for keeping our Bulldogs safe!
STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP
A flyer will be coming home on the first day of school with information about forming carpools. Doing so saves time and fuel, reduces traffic, increases safety and fosters friendships.
LUNCH NUMBERS
A Blackboard message went out to homes via voice message and email with your child’s individualized lunch/computer number. Every 5 years, student lunch numbers are changed and this year is it! This 7 digit lunch number will stay with the student for at least the next 5 years. 7 digits is a lot for young children to remember so if you could practice it with your children, that would really help them. This number is used to access any lunch or snack services AND it will also be the login number for students to get onto all school computers. If you didn’t get the number yet, we’ll give it out on the first day of school.
FOOTPRINT FRIDAYS
We have a new program here at school this year to teach children about recycling and to help fundraise for our school. You’ll notice a large container in the Y parking lot for this purpose. On Fridays, students will bring aluminum cans or plastic bottles (no glass) which have a CRV redemption value to school and deliver them to the Footprint Friday team in front of the school. If a student brings one full grocery bag (those white handle bags) filled with bottles and cans, they will receive a special gift. Any student who brings ANY plastic or aluminum cans or bottles will receive a paw print on their hand so that they can have “paw pride” knowing that they have helped the environment and that those bottles and cans didn’t end up in the regular trashcans. Footprint Friday leaders and creators are Tammy Orrill (jayntam@cox.net 949-364-1180) and Jamie Warth (WARTH3@cox.net 949-364-5455). They are in need of team members to help only on Friday mornings in support of this program so please contact them if you’d like to help. The program is sponsored by our Bergeson Foundation and all funds raised will be used for the benefit of Bergeson School. Reducing the carbon footprint from all of us who live on the earth is an important lesson for future generations. Save your plastic and aluminum (no glass) with our thanks!
PETER PAN
We have acquired a group discount for the production of Peter Pan at the Orange County Performing Arts Center which is a theatre-in-the-round experience on October 10, 2010, Sunday at 1 PM. Each ticket is $46 (which is a 10% discount from regularly priced seats) and they are very good seats in Section E. If you are interested, make out a check to “OCPAC” and turn into the Bergeson office by September 15. The Bergeson group will sit together. The description from the website: “A spectacular new production of JM Barrie’s classic story direct from engagements in London and San Francisco – conceived by an award-winning creative team, this smash hit production features the original London cast including Titanic star, Jonathan Hyde as Hook and Abby Ford (Harry Potter) as Wendy plus amazing puppets, epic music, dazzling flying scenes and the world’s first 360-degree CGI theatre set. Performed in a state-of-the-art theater pavilion, this magical new “in-the-round” production of Peter Pan is an extraordinary experience for the whole family.”
Respect, Responsibility and Ready to Learn! At Bergeson School, we learn something new every single day!!
