In case you were traveling last weekend….Welcome to Corpus Christi Alison Gaby!
As explained in last weekend’s Bulletin, the process of seeking a new Director of Faith Formation for Children and Families has been an interesting experience. With the assistance of our Review Team consisting of seven parishioners, (inclusive of a member of our HAVEN Youth who end up working closely with the Faith Formation of Children and Parents overall efforts) we/I reviewed the applications/material/possibilities of 25 persons. We have been searching for an energetic and creative individual who has a strong grasp of Roman Catholic-Christianity, has a spirit of joy in their endeavors and is comfortable/familiar working with both children and adults/parents within a parish setting. An embrace of OUR parish approach to Faith Formation was essential as well as a willingness to immerse themselves within our community and understand who we are and why we do things the way we do. It is my pleasure to share with you the news that our NEW Faith Formation Coordinator for Children and Families is Alison Gaby, although she prefers to go by ‘Ali’. Presently living with her family in Anaheim Hills, Ali is a CSUF graduate with her degree in Child and Adolescent Development; she has also completed her Elementary Teaching Credential Program at CSUF. A lifetime participant with San Antonio Parish in Anaheim Hills, Ali was highly involved with their Youth Ministry program, became a Confirmation Teacher, a Young Adult Leader and recently participated with their Search/Hiring Board for a Parish Young Adult Minister. She comes to us with the highest regard and recommendation of the Diocesan Office for Youth and Young Adults….and rumor has it that FKB actually baptized her younger brother during FKB’s one year at San Antonio….a long time ago! Ali officially embarks on her new ministry with us on Tuesday, September 7th and will gradually be introducing herself to the various ministries and outreaches that comprise Corpus Christi. There are no changes to scheduled FISH or Child Care programs but as Ali grows more comfortable amongst us you may probably anticipate some innovative and fresh ideas and opportunities under her leadership. Welcome to Corpus Christi Ali, we are happy to have you as part of our family. FKB

This kick-off party is a great time for families to gather and focus on the new faith-building year, pick up any support materials, and get a review of the program. Following the Saturday, September 25th, 5 pm mass, join us for a family dinner downstairs and the opportunity to meet other families, just like yours. Then it’s upstairs for all the grown-ups while the kids stay downstairs to be entertained by our outstanding high school leadership team and a fun movie. (Toddler care, ages 1 to 4, will be provided in the Good Shepherd room.) The evening will cover: Overview of our parish Faith Formation programs, FISH, JAMS and Haven, Sacramental Preparation how-to’s, Scope and Sequence of concepts covered for each grade level, Parent testimonials and support for home-based catechesis. Registration materials have been mailed out to registered parishioners – did you get yours? Extras are located on the concierge shelves and the Good Shepherd room. New and returning families must fill out the 2010-2011 registration to reserve materials, update contact information and RSVP for the Kick-Off. For more information, contact the parish office at (949) 389-9008
Please note that over the next few weekends one of our parishioners, Mr. Greg Heckler, will be taking photographs of our community for use in our 2011 Pastoral Services Appeal material. While we gather parent/permission forms for children, permission forms are not required for candid adult pictures at public Masses. If you do not wish your picture to be used in any of our promotional (PSA, website, etc.) efforts, please send your request in writing to Fr. Fred at the Parish Offices. Please include a picture of yourself so that we know which images to filter from our gathered pictures. Thanks.
A second collection for Catholic Charities is coming on September 25-26…
Catholic Charities is a frequently unseen yet extremely important compassionate outreach within the Diocese of Orange. Offering/facilitating everything from counseling to assistance/guidance for low coast housing, immigration assistance, oversight for outreach to the peripheral people in our societies as well as those who have simply had a tragic turn of events in their life, Catholic Charities acts in our name to help people here in Orange County survive their ordeals. To assist them in this process there will be a special Second Collection on the weekend of September 25-26. As always the basket will be on the altar for your consideration. Thank you for your generosity.
Please make sure your PSA pledge billings are getting to you!!!!
Our monthly mortgage is paid through monies generated by your faithful redemptions of your 2010 Pastoral Services Appeal pledges. I have heard form some parishioners that they have not been receiving regular bills from the Stewardship Office at the Diocese of Orange and this concerns me because many of us just presume that someplace like the Diocese will have it’s act together! So as to avoid unpleasant surprises at the end of the year, please review your own PSA payment schedule and make sure that you have been regularly paying on your PSA pledge. If you recently renewed or changed credit cards…did you let the Diocese of Orange know so that the new numbers could be entered for your billing? In early October we send out an ‘Accounting Letter’ which shows you the information we have regarding the amount you pledged and what we have received in redemption payments. This letter is NOT a dunning notice or meant to be threatening but is intended to keep you informed so there are no misunderstandings as we move toward the end of the year. Thanks for checking and making sure that everything with your PSA payments are as they should be; if there are any discrepancies, please call Susie Hays at our Front Office, 949-389-9008.

This weekend, in honor of September 11, 2001, a special American flag inscribed with the names of all those killed in the 9-11 attacks is suspended near the altar. It comes from Trinity Episcopal Church, which was transformed into home base for many of the WTC first responders. In addition, in recognition of the NEW World Trade Center construction underway and the development of the 9-11 Memorial Garden, in YOUR name Corpus Christi has purchased a $500 cobblestone within the Memorial Glade. Cobblestones will not be inscribed with any individual names but sponsor names will be listed along with the location of their commemorative cobblestone at Memorial Plaza kiosks.
The events of 9-11 did not just occur to New Yorkers…they struck at every American heart, thus it is only proper that OUR love and support for those killed that day (and for their surviving families/friends) be forever present in the 9-11 Memorial and Garden being constructed within the footprint of one of the WTC towers.
If you have recently moved to Corpus Christi, please make sure you complete a REGISTRATION FORM!! Thanks.
