SCREAMING COUPONS Sign up if you haven’t because we’re still in FIRST PLACE but now we’re coming into the home stretch with the deadline this SUNDAY AT 11:59 pm! Can you click on the link now and sign up? 300 people already have signed up from Bergeson. It will really help us earn some extra money for necessary educational supplies, and the proceeds will help to support our school – a win win!
If you sign up for Screamin’ Coupons you will receive daily emails which offer a coupon you can purchase. The good news is that when you purchase a coupon they are donating 5-10% back to Bergeson ES. There’s no spam involved and they never sell your email address. If you choose to sign up be sure to list Marian Bergeson Elementary School so that we receive the funds from Screaming Coupons. In addition, Dr. Bill Nguyen is a local orthodontist and has offered to match the donation for the Laguna Niguel School who wins this competition. And, Joe Allen from AP Electrical has also offered to match the $500 donation if Bergeson is in the lead!
In other words, we would receive another $1500 from both of these donors if we are the Screamin’ Coupons winner! As always, thank you for your help and support and try to sign up your friends and neighbors so that Bergeson will be number 1! http://www.screamincoupons.com/

5th GRADE CHARACTER COUNTS 2010 HOLIDAY PARADE ESSAY CONTEST: Laguna Niguel Police Services is sponsoring a Character Counts Essay Contest and looking for students who have exhibited good character in their personal life and want to share their true story. One winning entry will be chosen from each school.
The winners will be special guests in the Laguna Niguel Holiday Parade and will receive special prizes. Essay entries should be one page in length, written in your own words, describing how your personal experience showed one or more of the character traits (Respect, Responsibility, Trustworthiness, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship) with name, address, phone number, school and teacher’s name on the back. The deadline is November 1 to return it to school.
BLOCK MUSIC INFORMATION FOR 5th GRADE PARENTS: Your child is finishing a 5 week music exploratory program which we call “The Basics”. During this time, students have either continued with their string study, or have experienced 5 lessons on a band instrument and 5 vocal music/choir lessons. It is now time to make a decision on which class your child attends for the rest of the school year. Information will be coming home about their three choices and how and when to rent an instrument (if they choose):
Beginning Band*: This class is designed for those students wishing to start band instruction by choosing to play the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, and trombone.
Intermediate String Orchestra*: This class is designed for those students wishing to continue into orchestra for the second year playing the violin, viola, or cello.
Choir: In this class, students will use their singing voices as the instrument to explore music including healthy singing techniques, ear training and music reading.
*Most students participating in these classes rent or purchase an instrument. A packet will be sent home with music stores and information. A small number of instruments may be available on a financial need basis. A letter must be submitted to the music teacher for a needs-based instrument request.
PORTRAIT DAY: Great for the Holiday Greeting Cards!! Please email Caprice at ccrebar@gmail.com as soon as possible if you are planning to get your family portraits taken on our special Bergeson Family Portrait Day Fundraiser, Sunday October 24th! A professional photographer will have an all white Hi-Key portrait studio at our school. For a donation of $25.00 to the Bergeson Elementary School Foundation, each family will receive a beautiful 11”x14” portrait. Space is limited so please reserve your preferred time-slot now. If you choose to place an additional order, you will receive your family portraits in time for the Holidays. Contact Caprice Crebar at ccrebar@gmail.com if you are interested in scheduling an appointment for your family’s holiday portrait! Please share this opportunity with your friends and family too! Registration forms went home in back packs and are available in the office.
FALL FESTIVAL: Mark your calendar for our annual Fall Festival on Friday, November 5 from 5 – 8 PM. The In and Out truck, Laser Tag, Giant Slide, Games, Arcade and much more! This is not a fundraiser but a wonderful community event that your whole family will enjoy.
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST: LAST CHANCE! Beauty and the Beast is the original Broadway musical theatre production which will be at the Orange County Performing Arts Center for one week this year. We have reserved a block of 100 tickets in the middle of the 2nd balcony (Tier 2) on Sunday, November 21 at 6:30 PM and the cost is $21 per ticket (regularly $55) if you purchase them through our school with the education discount. A check is made out to “OCPAC” and you can turn it in at the Bergeson office. Once these tickets are gone, we can’t get any more at the discounted price. This is the Sunday before Thanksgiving break so Monday is a holiday, in case you were worried about the evening show. Deadline for purchasing tickets is October 15. This is not a fundraiser; tickets are at cost.
RALPH’S SUPERMARKET FUNDRAISER: The easiest fundraiser that we have is our Ralph’s Supermarket Fundraiser. Attach your Ralph’s card to our school, and our school receives 4 – 8% back from your purchase. Look for a new flyer which is coming home this week; take the flyer into Ralph’s and they’ll connect it to your card. Even if you did this last year, you’ll need to make sure to attach it again this September so that our school receives the benefits. You can also go to www.ralphs.com; click on Community Contributions; then click on “Participants” and follow the prompts to attach your account to Bergeson School. We have to be creative these days to combat the crazy shrinking State budgets. Last year, Bergeson School made almost $10,000 on this simple fundraiser so make sure to sign up very soon!
SHINING STARS: We will reward students through our Character Counts program for giving of their time and talents in the form of Community Service by giving them a Shining Star! Fill out the application (in the office) and place it in the Shining Stars box (in the office) to be recognized at our Friday flag ceremony. The Shining Stars board will be in the MPR and we would love to have your name on it! This week we are honoring the following families for giving of their time and talent before school started to help with our Beautification Day to make our school beautiful for the starting of school.
CELEBRATION BOOKS LIBRARY DONATION: Purchasing a book for the Bergeson Library is a great way to honor your child’s birthday, applaud a major accomplishment, recognize good grades or just proclaim your child as an outstanding Bergeson Bulldog. In recognition of your donation to the library, your child is recognized by Principal Scholl during the Friday morning flag salute and a “Book Plate” will be affixed to the inside cover of your book selection announcing, “This book was donated in your child’s honor!” Recognitions of book donations are presented every Friday at 7:45 am. Book Club Forms can be picked up in the office. Donating a book to the Bergeson Library is a wonderful tribute for your child that all Bergeson students can enjoy for many years. What a wonderful gift to give to grow our library.
OCTOBER BIRTHDAYS: Wendy Thomas (4), Celia Wortman (9), Sadi Shah (17), Mary May (26), Jeni Duff (30), Angel Newell (30)
