Calling all high school students…. HAVEN is the place for you grow in your relationship with God and other Corpus Christi teens! Our next HAVEN meeting will be on November 13, 5:00 pm – 10:00 pm! Our meeting theme is To Save a Life and will be an amazing meeting that also fulfills the diocesan requirement for Safe Environment education. We will watch the movie To Save a Life, a drama involving a teen coping with the aftermath of a student’s suicide. It addresses real-life issues facing teens such as drugs, sex and social acceptance. Discussion will follow the movie. Even if you’ve seen it, you’ll take something away from watching it again. Bring a low beach chair to watch the movie in comfort and drop it off in the lower hall before mass. We will end the evening with our free-choice reflections stations: art, music, deeper discussion, prayer, drama, and reading. Contact Linda Palomino at palomino6@cox.net or 290-3424 if you have any questions or would like information about how to register for HAVEN.
It is a special treat to invite family and friends to Mass but it can become awkward at Communion if you have not explained to them that we Roman Catholics are a ‘closed communion’ Church, meaning that Eucharist/Communion is for Roman Catholics only. Eucharist is a final statement of shared belief and of being in full communion with the Church of Rome, meaning acceptance of the Catholic hierarchy, the pope, teachings of the Church, etc. Thus, members of other faiths or denominations are welcome to come forward with their hands/arms crossed over their heart so as to receive a blessing. It becomes awkward when someone of another faith obviously does not know what to do or say. So, to avoid these embarrassing moments, please guide/instruct your non-Catholic friends on what Eucharist means to us and how they are welcome to receive a blessing but not communion. Thanks!

‘Soul Searching’ …. A Movie about Teenagers and God
Tuesday, November 9, 2010, 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm Corpus Christi Lower Hall (bring a beach chair for comfort during the movie)
SOUL SEARCHING, a movie about Teenagers and God, is a compelling documentary about the religious and spiritual lives of American teenagers based on research by the National Study of Youth and Religion, which began in 2000 under the direction of Dr. Christian Smith and continues today. Michael Eaton and Timothy Eaton of Revelation Studios have worked with Dr. Smith to bring you this documentary journey into the lives of teenagers from all over the country. Find out what mostly Christian teenagers think about God and religion, what their hopes and aspirations are, and what the research says about the effect of religion in their lives. Discussion will follow the movie. Contact Linda Palomino palomino6@cox.net or 949-290-3424 for more information.
You are invited to enjoy the following books and join the Book Club on Monday, Nov.1, at 7:00 P.M., in meeting room 4: Sarah’s Key by Tatiana de Rosnay and/or The Boy Who Came Back From Heaven by Kevin Malarkey.
Our Autumn Sacramental Prep Session approaches…
A reminder, our parish policy is that any family seeking the Sacrament of Baptism, First Reconciliation or First Eucharist, Marriage, needs to have been a REGISTERED PARISHIONER for a minimum of THREE MONTHS prior to attending any Sacramental Prep Sessions and/or the setting of any Sacramental dates. (Thus, someone registering today would be attending the early-2011 Prep session, not the November session….followed by another call after the session to schedule a date for their child’s reception of Sacraments….not register and schedule at the same time.)
Our next Sacramental Preparation Session for families of children desiring First Reconciliation and First Eucharist here at Corpus Christi is scheduled for Saturday, November 13th at 2:30 p.m., concluding with the 5:00 p.m. Mass. Please note that participation at one of our quarterly Sacramental Prep Sessions prior to scheduling a First Reconciliation and First Eucharist is a parish requirement. You will receive your Sacramental Registration Form at the conclusion of the session. This policy is binding for ALL families, both those who have multiple children (who may have already received one or more First Eucharists, fresh attendance at the Sacramental Prep for each child is necessary) and for those approaching the Sacraments for the first time. Pre-registration is necessary (no drop-ins), please contact Susie Hays at 389-9008 to receive the necessary paperwork.
It is important to note that these Sacramental Preparation Sessions augment but DO NOT replace our parish policy of parents teaching their own children the essentials of our faith and introducing their own children to the person of Jesus Christ. These Prep Sessions are final steps to ensure that parental education has indeed been happening.
Networking and Employment Transition Support (NETS) Ministry Career transition can be stressful, thus, NETS is pleased to introduce Randy Noe, who will present “Using Career and Job Transitions for both Personal and Spiritual Growth” on November 14, from 3:00 p.m.-5:30pm. Vice President of Executive Career Management at Right Management for Southern California and an international executive coach, Randy provides leadership programs for senior executives and developing leaders to help them in transitioning throughout their careers, to consider their longer-term objectives, and to grow their leadership capacity for greater clarity and better results. In his presentation he will cover career goals and objectives, target resume writing, and keen interview skills, as well as how we can open ourselves to a spiritual experience in the process of finding the job we want. Please join us for this inspiring presentation. RSVP by contacting Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715.
Some MODEST changes for this year’s Parish Thanksgiving Supper….
Some MODEST changes are planned for our annual Parish Thanksgiving Dinner, this year’s to again be celebrated on the Monday of Thanksgiving Week, November 22nd. Scotty Eisenbart will again be coordinating, if you would like to volunteer to be part of Scotty’s Kitchen Team, please make contact with him at: 395-3073. The BIGGEST change will be an ‘assigned number’ manner of allowing people into the Grand Hall to claim an inside table, on Sunday, November 21s beginning at 4;00 p.m.. In past years it has become something of a madhouse rush as people depart from noon mass and people are moving in with tables….snarls are exchanged, mean-spirited looks are thrown around…it is a depressing way to initiate a week of ‘Giving Thanks.’ So…in order to calm our savage beasts and become a bit more organized….while the chairs will still be emptied from the Grand Hall following the Noon Mass on the 21st and all our tables will be already set-up… THOSE DESIRING one of those inside tables WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE Grand Hall UNTIL 4:00 p.m. AND THEY WILL BE ADMITTED BASED ON A FIRST COME-TICKETED-NUMBER SYSTEM!!!!
Following the 12-Noon Mass, as people arrive to await entry, they will be provided a ticketed NUMBER. At 4:00 p.m. those with tickets will be admitted in numeric order. There is no pre-ticketing…this is available on a first-come/first-entrance basis. People may enter when their number is called….if you wander away or are not ready when your number is called….you forfeit your place in line. .Please note that the outdoor tables may be claimed at any time (We are renting an additional 50 rectangular tables for the outdoors and 300 extra chairs.) With the HUGE success of our Thanksgiving Dinner have come growing complaints and disappointments by people regarding the set-up…we hope these MODEST changes will alleviate some of the craziness without disturbing the festive spirit of the night!
