CVHS WASC ACCREDITATION UPDATE:
CVHS just completed the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) Accreditation process this week, which each school must complete every six years. The visiting WASC committee presented their findings and recommendations to the Capo staff yesterday at a meeting held after school. Although we will not be notified of our official accreditation term until January, the visit was very positive and productive. As required in the accreditation process, the committee’s final report included the following schoolwide strengths and areas for follow-up:
Schoolwide Strengths
The committee commends:
1. The students of CVHS for their respectful attitude towards the staff and learning, and their care for their school.
2. The faculty and administrative staff for their collaborative efforts to develop curriculum maps, pacing guides, and benchmark assessments to ensure a grade level standard curriculum is available to all students.
3. The students, faculty and administrative staff for the consistent improvement of performance in high-stakes test results.
4. The District and the faculty and administrative staff for their continued commitment to: literacy skills, critical thinking skills, moral and civic values, essential District objectives and curriculum standards.
5. The faculty and administrative staff, students, and parents for the many successful efforts to provide a safe learning environment and a clean school.
6. The faculty and administrative staff for the strong intervention strategies for all students. These interventions are accessible to all students.
Schoolwide Areas for Follow-up
The committee recommends:
1. That the faculty, staff, parents and students continue the ongoing implementation of Focus On Learning, to promote continuous improvement that will enhance the achievement of each student in the Expected Schoolwide Learning Results and grade-level academic standards.
2. That CVHS faculty and staff use and continue to expand the use of grade level standard instruction and materials in all classes including Special Education and ELL classes.
3. That CVHS faculty and staff continue to promote full implementation of instructional strategies that have been adopted by the school community and the District such as SDAIE and AVID strategies.
4. That proven research based strategies are used by faculty and administration to assist students in completing A-G requirements and that an effective data collection mechanism for tracking A-G completion for all students and all subgroups be developed and used.
5. That the administration and instructional staff continue to focus the analysis and use of data to include a close examination of CAHSEE, SAT I and II, ELM (CSU entry level math), EPT (CSU English placement test) performance, grades, departmental benchmark assessments and Data Director data analysis, etc. to drive decision-making in the classroom, in the departments and schoolwide, particularly in regards to instruction and support for improved student achievement.
6. That the administration and instructional staff continue to develop professional expertise in the most powerful, best-practices, research-driven instructional strategies to most effectively deliver the content, engaging all students in learning to mastery performance levels.
7. That the administration and faculty develop an effective measurement system to track and report on students’ achievement of the ESLRs.
Thank you to all members of our school community who have participated and supported the WASC process.

Did You Know…?
• Less than half of all college students graduate from
the schools they enter as freshman
• After 6 years of college, nearly half STILL don’t have
an undergraduate degree
• Barely a third of students are achieving an
undergraduate degree in 4 years.
• 10% of students attend 3 or more colleges before
finally earning their degree
Why Is This Happening?
• Inadequate preparation constructing the College List
• Not understanding the complexity of today’s College
Admissions and Financial Aid
• Student/college mismatch academically and/or
financially
• Not understanding the TRUE cost of college
• “Brand Name Paralysis” – selecting colleges on the
basis on their name and perceived prestige
