4TH GRADE STAR WRITING TEST, TUESDAY MARCH 5: Bergeson 4th graders will be participating in California’s Writing Standards Test on Tuesday, March 5. Students in grade 4 may be asked to write a narrative, a response to literature, or a summary. Bergeson Elementary is participating with all other schools in the state in this program that is designed to provide students, parents, teachers, and the community with information about fourth-grade students’ achievement in writing. Your child needs to attend school on testing day (Tuesday, March 5). The only make-up day that the state will allow is Wednesday, March 6. It is important that students do their best to increase the accuracy of the results. On testing day we are asking that there be no parent volunteers in fourth grade classrooms. Every effort will be made to assure an optimal testing environment for our students. You are a vital partner in the testing process and can help by:

  • · Making sure your child has plenty of rest the night before testing ·
  • · Ensuring that your child arrives at school on time and is ready for testing
  • · Providing a nutritious breakfast on testing day
  • · Helping your child view the test as an important opportunity to show what he or she has learned
  • · Encouraging your child to do his or her very best

Parents will receive detailed reports related to their child’s performance on this test. Group results by grade level for each school, district, county and the state will be posted on the Internet in August, 2012. Thank you for your assistance in preparing your child for this testing experience.

E-WASTE COLLECTION ON MARCH 9: Did you get a new TV for Christmas? Make sure to save all of your electronic waste for our E-Waste Disposal day on the morning of Saturday, March 9. It’s only once per year and the time is HERE! Our school is paid for all of your waste by the pound and last year’s collection made about $500 for our school. Mark your calendar and bring the old DVDs, Video Players, TV’s, Microwaves and all of it right here to the Bergeson parking lot. Share the information with your friends so that they can bring their old clunker computer monitors and electronics to our disposal day, too!

ANAHEIM DUCKS GAME ON MARCH 10 at 5 PM: MONDAY IS THE LAST DAY TO PURCHASE THESE TICKETS! Bergeson and Palisades Schools have reserved 200 tickets for the Anaheim Ducks game on March 10 for the discounted price of $20 per ticket. But wait! If you buy your ticket with our school, ONLY people in our group will get to play broomball on the ice at Honda Center after the game! The Ducks provide the equipment. We will be in sections 442, 443, 444 in rows Q – U. Once the tickets are gone, they’re gone. Send a check to school made out to BESF and we’ll get you the tickets in the week before the game. Go Ducks! Quack!

PENNIES for PATIENTS: We are collecting coins for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Please, return your collection box to school by Wednesday, 3/6! Each classroom will compete against each other to win a free pasta lunch from Olive Garden. The winner of the free lunch will be announced on 3/11/2013. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society thanks you and your children in advance for helping patients with blood cancers liver better, longer lives.

5TH GRADE AVMS REGISTRATION: AVMS will be having their 6th Grade Parent Night on Thursday, March 28 at 6:30 pm

YEARBOOK: The 2012-13 Bergeson Yearbook is on sale now for the early-bird price of $15 until March 15. After March 15, the price goes up to $25 so get your order in now. The yearbook was not included on the PTA buffet form at the beginning of the year, so if you haven’t ordered it recently, then you haven’t ordered a yearbook. Hurry to get your order in and take advantage of this remarkably low price.

BESF/FRIENDS OF MIP MEETING will be held at 6 PM in Mrs. Scholl’s office on March 6. All are welcome to attend.

NEW STUDENTS REGISTER ONLINE STARTING MARCH 1: You can register your Kindergartener online by going to the district website at www.capousd.org and find the online registration. It’s takes about 15 minutes. Then bring the paperwork into the office and you’re done!

SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDERS: Please don’t park on the red curb. We have had a few incidents where an ambulance or a fire truck needed to get by and they couldn’t get through! Even in the minute or two that it takes us to locate a parent who is parked on the red curb, this is time that’s needed to care for a child. Secondly, please don’t bring your dog on the school campus. We have been a little lenient about this in the past but we have several students who are scared of dogs and this school district policy will need to be honored from now on. Thank you!

CONGRATULATIONS TO BERGESON’S DESTINATION IMAGINATION TEAM: The team is called the Cool Cruisers and they had their tournament 2/23/13. The team was made up of: Ajay Arangan, 5th grade, Jaden Fitter 4th grade, Corey Anderson 3rd grade, Darius Fitter 3rd grade, & Malia Matsuura 3rd grade. Our other Team manager was Ajay’s Father Arul Arangan. Students worked really hard for the past 5 months, meeting 3-4 times a week preparing for the big day. They made 10 vehicles using the propulsions of gravity, pneumatic (balloon car), and wind up. They also created a skit for the presentation that was so humorous and creative. The prepared for the instant challenge which they had to learn teamwork and follow detail instructions to perform or build something in a very short amount of time (usually 4 minutes). We are so proud of how they all worked together to brainstorm ideas and create something from their own ideas. It was 100% kid powered! It was amazing to watch these 5 kids think of such amazing creative ideas. It was an awesome experience for the children and we truly appreciate the parent coaches, Cindy Matsuura and Arul Arangan, too!

CHICK-FIL-A FUNDRAISER ON MARCH 28: Our Student Council kids will be serving food at Chick-fil-A on March 28 for our next Dine-Out Night. The whole school is welcome to join in the fun and Bergeson School receives 20% of your bill as a donation back to the school. Save the date!

FOOTPRINT FRIDAY continues with the collection of plastic bottles and aluminum cans. All students will receive the Bergeson Best for bringing in a bag with our thanks for your donations! We have a new incentive! If we fill out current bin by Spring Break, students will get to have a sports jersey day at school! Please separate your bottles and cans. It saves our Green Team lots of time! Our children are the recipients of your donation with our thanks to you…

CELEBRATION BOOKS: Do you have a special event that you’d like to celebrate? Please consider donating a book to our library in honor of your child or an event. There is a form in the office, donate $20 and your child’s name will be in the book forever. You can even pick out the book from a pre-purchased supply in the library. There will be a plaque with your child’s name on the inside cover of the book forever!

SHINING STARS: Students who give of their time and talents to help those less fortunate in our community are recognized as Shining Stars. They receive a cool blue Shining Star bracelet and their Star on the wall in the MPR for the whole year!
