MONDAY, MAY 27 is the Memorial Day Holiday. Have a wonderful 3 Day Weekend and we will see you on Tuesday!
OPEN HOUSE, THE BERGIE BULLDOG BASH AND GRANDPARENTS DAY: It was a fantastic celebratory atmosphere here at Bergeson last night! Your children enjoyed showing off their work to you in their classrooms. Our Bergeson Foundation did a FABULOUS job on the Bergie Bulldog Bash with HUNDREDS of Silent Auction items, food trucks and fun. For the Bash, we would like to thank chairpersons, Sandy Marshall and Nicole Queen for organizing such a fabulous event with their committee of helpers including: President Tammy Orrill, Jamie, Jackie, Debbie, Mike A., Gina, Ann, Bridget, Jennifer, Laura, Maggie, Mike N., Nikki and their committees. We will let you know how well we did with the fundraising and whether we went “over the top” to purchase next year’s programs. We truly thank all of our Bergeson families who donated and made this event a success! Grandparents day was an amazingly wonderful day with about 400 grandparents on campus! Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring it, Meredith Chillemi and Vanessa Leite for chairing it and to our student council for escorting the parents. It was an spectacular week for our school community this week and we owe it all to YOU!
PARENT SURVEY: We would GREATLY appreciate it if you would fill out and return the School Uniform survey which was sent out today. If you didn’t get it today, you will see it go home on Tuesday. The only way we can validate the survey is if 75% of the surveys are returned with a yes or no. Our School Site Council voted to survey the parents about whether or not they would like to have school uniforms starting with the Kindergarten class of 2013-14. Again, this would just be for the incoming Kindergarteners and then each year after that. K/1 for 14-15 school year. K/1/2 for 15-16 school year. K/1/2/3 for 16-17 school year and so on. There are pros and cons about school uniforms which you can find with a Google Search. We would like to have your opinion. Thank you, in advance, for your participation.
K-1 READINESS SUMMER CLASS: This summer class is for incoming Kindergarteners and new 1st Grade students taught by Mrs. Kathy Brewer.
Date: June 17 – 27, every day, Monday – Thursday, 9 – 11 AM. Course Fee is $169, checks payable to Kathleen Brewer; turn in at the office with the application by 6/12. For more information, contact Mrs. Brewer at klbrewer@capousd.org. Children will enjoy this two-week class of academic readiness skills that focus on the areas of reading, writing and math facts. Sign up soon since space is limited.
4TH GRADE PARENTS: Science Camp is just around the corner and we are so excited for this opportunity for our *ALMOST* 5th graders. We are extending the deadline to turn in your interest/deposit forms until next Friday May 31st. This is also the deadline for the sweatshirt logo contest entries. If you have any questions please contact Nina Dickerson at dickersons4@cox.net
SISTER ACT – THE MUSICAL: Bergeson School has reserved a block of tickets for the Broadway Musical “Sister Act” at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa on Sunday, 8/18 at 1 PM. These are offered to us at the education discount of $36 per ticket (regularly sold for $80 per ticket) for seats in the back of the Orchestra section (on the floor) if you buy them through our school. Checks are made payable to “SCFTA”. This program is not a fundraiser, just an opportunity to share the arts with our children. We only have 100 tickets so first come-first served. Description from the website: “Sister Act is Broadway’s feel-amazing musical comedy smash! The New York Post calls it “Ridiculously Fun”. Featuring original music by 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken (Beauty and the Beast, Little Mermaid), Sister Act tells the story of Deloris Van Cartier, a wannabe diva whose life takes a surprising turn when she witnesses a crime and the cops hide her in the last place anyone would think to look – a convent! Under suspicious watch of Mother Superior, Deloris helps her fellow sisters find their voices as she unexpectedly rediscovers her own.” DEADLINE TO PURCHASE TICKETS IS 6/7.
DRESS CODE: As the weather continues to get warmer, please remember our CUSD Dress Code, specifically for girls: NO short shorts (when girls put hands by their side, the bottom of the fingertips should reach the bottom of their shorts) and no spaghetti straps (if the strap is wider than two fingers, it’s not allowed). Hats are not to be worn unless a note is sent by the parents and will only be worn during recess. To help protect students’ feet while at school and on the playground during recess, children need to wear shoes that cover their heels and toes. Flip flops and sandals are not permitted. After one warning from their teacher, students will be sent to the office to call for other clothes. Thank you in advance for assisting us in enforcing this policy.
COMMUNITIES FOR CAUSE: The Bergeson PTA is excited to announce our new partnership with Communities for Cause, a fantastic FREE smartphone app that makes it easy to support Bergeson Elementary, at local merchants. Bergeson School already has 15 supporters. It’s easy to do – no coupons or discount cards to remember! Simply download the Communities for Cause App on your iPhone or Android, and select Bergeson Elementary as your cause to support, and show the app when you dine or shop at a participating merchant. The merchant will make a donation to the Bergeson PTA based on a percentage of your total bill. Just scan the QR Code below from your smartphone to go straight to the App, or you can find the App in the iTunes or Android App Store under Communities for Cause. www.communitiesforcause.net/cause/Bergeson. STRANGER DANGER: Today, there was an elderly lady across the street with a dog. The lady motioned our children to come over to see her dog and many of the students did. One of our teachers on duty in the parking lot saw this taking place and motioned for the children to keep on walking. This is a good time to remind our children about Stranger Danger and to make sure that they don’t stop to talk with anyone that they don’t know. Of course, this may have been an innocent situation but you never know and our children always need to be alert….especially our children who walk home. Thank you for your assistance.
FOOD DONATIONS: We STILL have some boxes of donated dry and canned food from FOCUS ORANGE COUNTY and would like to donate this to Bergeson families who are in financial need. Please come to the office and let us know so that we can give you a box and help your family. A big thank you to the Focus Orange County for the donations! Don’t be shy; come and get some; your donation is kept confidential!
FOOTPRINT FRIDAY RECYCLING COMPETITION: Let’s beat Palisades School in the competition so that they buy us 15 playground balls! There are 2 Fridays left so bring all of your cans and plastic bottles to the Green Team on Friday mornings with our thanks for your donations. Every time we fill the recycle bin we receive $1000 for our school!
NEW STUDENTS REGISTER ONLINE: You can register your Kindergarten – 5TH grader online by going to the district website at www.capousd.org and find the online registration. It’s takes about 15 minutes. Bring in your documentation to Attendance/Registration Clerk, Angel Newell to complete the registration process. Do you have neighbors that are coming to Kindergarten next year? Tell them to come and register! We are creating our classes now!
ARE YOU LEAVING BERGESON NEXT YEAR? For students who will be moving over the summer or leaving Bergeson (not counting the 5th graders), please let Angel know if you will not be returning to Bergeson next year by calling the office or sending her an email at adnewell@capousd.org.
PARENT PORTAL? Go to the Bergeson website http://bgnes.capousd.ca.schoolloop.com/ and on the right hand side click on Parent Portal and select Access to parent/student portal. If you don’t have your student’s permanent id and verification code, call the office. It is VERY important that each child has a Portal. If you want to add or change contacts you can do it on the parent portal plus the Portal provides parents and guardians the ability to annually re-register their student on-line and download important documents versus completing traditional paper packets. Parents also have access to their student(s) demographics, current schedule, daily attendance, course requests, and test scores. Report card grades and unofficial transcripts can also be printed. Emergency contact information can be updated anytime. Parents of High School students can also view the student’s graduation status and college entrance requirements. THOSE WITH PARENT PORTAL WILL GET STAR SCORES EARLY!
IN LINE ~ ON TIME: Congratulations to the following classes who were In Line ~ On Time for 17 days and spelled out the words PERFECT ATTENDANCE! They received a popsicle party this week.

They receive a cool blue Shining Star bracelet and their Star on the wall in the MPR for the whole year! This week: Ben V. and Ulysses met at a park, cleaned up the park and moved some big logs so that little kids would not hurt themselves.
