SPECIAL EDUCATION PRESENTATION ON 10-29-13 AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE
There will be a free parent training on Tuesday October 29, 2013 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm in the District Office Board Room at 33122 Valle Road, San Juan Capistrano, CA 92675. The presentation “How to Organize your Child’s IEP Binder” is hosted the Special Education Community Advisory Committee (CAC). All participants will receive a three-ring binder and instructions to guide them in maintaining their child’s special education records. Adults only please. LIFETOUCH PICTURE RETAKE DAY
Picture retake day is on Tuesday, October 15 located in the Performance Room during PE classes.
SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR IS NEXT WEEK!
The Fair is being held in Room 217, which is located in the back of the school, accessed via the black top.
Parents are invited to visit and shop any time during the Fair’s open hours. Most students will visit with their English classes. Others will need to visit during their lunch break. Don’t forget to send money with your child if they plan to visit the fair.
Book Fair dates are Monday, October 14th – Friday, October 18th during the following hours:
Monday 9:45 – 3:25
Tuesday 8:30 -3:25
Wednesday 8:30 – 3:25
Thursday 9:30 – 3:25
Friday 8:30 – 1:30 (closing after lunch)

Remember, you can place orders online where book selection is even better! Titles are organized by grade level and genre for your convenience. You can even search for popular series and watch video clips for many of the popular titles. Have your student make a wish list and send it to families for early holiday shopping! Or, have them read about titles before visiting the fair so they know what to look for once there. It’s a great resource for both parents and students.

7th graders can join in mid-February 2014, and 6th graders can join in 7th grade, in February 2015.
8th grade CJSF Applications are due on October 18th.

RECYCLING NEEDS YOUR HELP!
The NHMS Booster Club is in urgent need of parents volunteers in order to keep the Recycle Wednesday program running successfully. If you can be available on Wednesday mornings before school starts, and offer once a week, once a month or any amount of time you can give then WE NEED YOU! Collection is at the exit of the school every Wednesday morning and all we need is some smiling volunteers to assist with unloading cans, bottles and newspapers from cars and sorting the recyclables into bags! The recycling program funds many things at NHMS, including providing funds for the Special Education Department to enhance their curriculum. If you are willing to offer your time to NHMS, please email nhmsbooster@gmail.com with your availability. Thank you –
SHARK PRIDE HOURS:
We will offer a limited number of Shark Pride hours for students who wish to work during their lunch period. We will take MAX of TWO students per lunch period. Students may only work one shift and must sign up in advance.

DO NOT DRIVE IN THE BUS LANE ON PASEO ESCUELA
Please do not use the bus lane on your way into the parking lot on Paseo Escuela (nor once you get into the lot). If police are present you may receive a citation. The bus lane needs to remain clear.

BE A PART OF THE 35TH ANNUAL MOULTON BOO BLAST
Niguel Hills students have the opportunity to volunteer at the 35th Annual Boo Blast Carnival at Moulton Elementary School on Saturday, October 26, 2013. Students will receive community service hours to fulfill school service awards and/or community service graduation requirements. Boo Blast is Moulton PTA’s biggest fundraiser, as well as a huge community event, creating a great opportunity for your students to make a meaningful contribution to our community and public schools.
We are looking for students who can work a minimum of a two-hour shift in our game booths, food concessions, rides and other attractions. Our Community Service Chairman oversees shifts and scheduling; and the students are directly supervised by parent volunteers on event day. Students can sign up for shifts anytime between 9am-5pm .

PTSA BUSINESS SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITY
During 2012-2013, the Niguel Hills Middle School PTSA was able to support our school by allocating over $50,000 in funds for school assets and programs. The PTSA is now offering opportunities for businesses to be recognized for their contributions to our “Support Our Sharks Campaign”. Business sponsors may be featured in the 2012-2013 school directory, on the PTSA web site, and listed in a school newsletter which is mailed to the families of our over 1,200 students. The deadline for recognition in the directory is Friday, October 11, 2013. HOMEWORK CLUB BEGINS OCTOBER 14
Homework club begins on Monday, October 14th. Permission slips are available at the front office and on school loop. We will be accepting applications starting Friday, September 20th at the front office. Please carefully read the Homework Club permission slip. There is limited space, so spots will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
Homework Club is on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. There is no Homework Club on Tuesdays and 10/31/13, 12/19/13, 2/6/14 and 2/13/14. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 234-5360.
