City of Mission Viejo Community of Character Committee
The City of Mission Viejo became a City of Character in 2003, and we focus on a different character trait each month. The Character Committee provides materials to support each character quality to all of our Mission Viejo schools, and also helps to provide activities at our City events and character-building programs throughout the year. The adult committee meets once per month during the day. We also have a vibrant student sub-committee, which meets two evenings per month. The student committee offers opportunities for service, leadership, fun, and involvement for students age 14 through high school. We need new members on both the adult and the student Character Committees. This is a great way to make a difference in our community! For details and the committee applications, contact Mayor Pro Tem Trish Kelley at trishkelley@cox.net or 949-285-0309.

See your academic advisor or Schoolloop for more information and the application. The DEADLINE to submit the completed application is APRIL 30, 2013.
Important reminder about arriving at school early-
Newhart Middle School does not open for students until 8:00am Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and 9:00am Wednesdays. Students are not to arrive on campus earlier than this. Please do not drop off students before these times, there is no supervision available.
Drop off & Pick up-
Please remember when dropping off and picking up your students from Newhart to follow all posted traffic signs on La Paz and Veterans Way. There are often sheriff officers out giving tickets for those who do not. When entering the Newhart parking lot from Veterans Way please do not block the driveway or double park on Veterans Way. Please follow all one way arrows and stay with the flow of traffic. We want all students and parents to be safe so please be considerate. A traffic flow map of the parking lot is available on the schools website.
Please be considerate of the Normal P. Murray Senior Center located at the end of Veterans Way and follow all posted traffic signs. There are many elderly people walking and driving on Veterans Way. The Senior Center has reported people speeding, blocking driveways, not following posted traffic signs making it difficult for the seniors.
Newhart PAL Recycling-
Please support our school by bringing your cans and bottles to Newhart for recycling every Friday. PAL students will be outside to collect cans and bottles before school so you don’t even have to get out of your car! Every bottle or can helps! Thank you for your support. Go Panthers!
