Stand Up for Kids

AEC community coming together to benefit local charities fighting youth homelessness

Did you know that there is an estimated 27,000 homeless youth living in the Orange County area and an estimated 2,500 youth in the Orange County foster care system?  Of the foster care kids, approximately 300 will age out of the foster care system program per year when they turn eighteen, and 25-50% of those kids will then become homeless.

On Friday, October 21, 2011, a number of Orange County Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) associations will come together to jointly host the AEC Masquerade Ball. Proceeds of the event will benefit StandUp for Kids, Orangewood Children’s Foundation and Olive Crest. This industry celebration brings together members from the AEC community and local government for an engaging evening and a fantastic networking opportunity.  The hosts for the evening include:

·         Asian American Architects and Engineers

·         American Council of Engineering Companies – Orange County Chapter

·         American Public Works Association, Southern California Chapter

·         American Society of Civil Engineers Orange County

·         Business Development Association of Orange County

·         Society for Marketing Professional Services – Orange County Chapter

·         Society for Marketing Professional Services – San Diego Chapter

·         The Southern California Transportation Coalition

·         Women’s Transportation Seminar – Inland Empire, Los Angeles, Orange County & San Diego Chapters

Along with a buffet dinner, silent auction, DJ and photo booth, attendees will also have the opportunity to mingle and network with fellow industry peers and some of the night’s confirmed VIP guests:

·         Lucy Dunn, CTC Commissioner, OCBC President

·         Will Kempton, Chief Executive Officer, OCTA

·         Colonel Thomas H. Magness IV, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

·         Doug Failing, Executive Director Highway Program, LA METRO

·         Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt, Vice Chairman, San Bernardino County, Chairman, High Desert Corridor Joint Powers Authority

·         Doug Sereno, Director of Program Management, Port of Long Beach

·         Supervisor Bill Campbell, Orange County

·         Mayor Joe Carchio, City of Huntington Beach

·         Mayor Carolyn Cavecche, City of Orange

·         Ignacio Ochoa, Director, Chief Engineer, OC Public Works

·         Arnice Lamb, Supplier Diversity & Sustainability, Walt Disney Co.

·         Marnie Primmer, Executive Director, Mobility 21

This event is a great opportunity to meet new potential clients and raise awareness for a great cause.
