Audiences loved this innovative experience fusing art, jazz, dance, and poetry the past three years.  Come and see what happens when the jazz, theatre, dance, and art departments come together again for a fusion of creativity done in a chaotic, spontaneous, and improvised manner.

Presented by the Saddleback College Art, Jazz, Dance, and Speech students and faculty Happening/Unhappening 4 is happening in the Studio Theatre on Friday, February 7th at 7:30 p.m. This interactive, interdisciplinary experience incorporating jazz, poetry, painting, sculpture, dance, and reader’s theatre is presented in a single time-sensitive performance.

This eclectic crew will create a hybrid piece of art that breaks down the walls between the various disciplines as they react and interact in a spontaneous and unpredictable manner. Utilizing methods based on historic spontaneity as varied as Zen brush painting, improvised jazz, abstract expressionism, and spoken word traditions, a new area of creative research will be explored

New this year are musical instruments made of clay. Come and watch as musicians invent experimental tunes with these innovative tools. Participation is limited so get your tickets early and help break down that “fourth wall” to become a part of this creative exhibition of jazz, art, dance, and poetry.

Tickets can be purchased by calling (949) 582-4656 (noon-4 Wednesday-Saturday) and online at www.saddleback.edu/arts.  Tickets purchased in advance are $10; $15 at the door

The Art Department believes that a person’s reflection of life is manifested through his or her art.  Students are able to fully appreciate artistic expressions through study, observation and experience.  The art faculty and staff are committed to offering the strongest foundation in the arts that will allow students success in college as well as in their ongoing roles as artists.

Jazz Studies at Saddleback College emphasizes creativity through improvisation and ensemble performance. The Speech Communication Department offers courses with the goal of maximizing the communication potential in all students.  Significant research consistently indicates that the professional world all students will enter values and expects communication skills.  Courses designed to strengthen public speaking and stage presence, improve relationships, enhance critical thinking and increase ability to understand others.  Students are also offered the opportunity to develop analytical, delivery and theatrical skills by competing in a variety of speaking and acting events against other college competitors.
