Community Volunteers with City Officers
If the measure of a community is the sum of its volunteers, then Aliso Viejo is one huge city.
Indeed, volunteers are the lifeblood of this community. On Wednesday, the city paid homage to roughly 54 volunteers during its Annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center.
Some of the volunteers have worked at the city’s Family Resource Center and with the Boys & Girls Club. Others chipped in at last year’s Community Cup golf tournament and Founder’s Day Fair. Some spend their time serving as members of the Aliso Viejo PALS program and Neighborhood Watch. And still others continue to devote tons of hours to an array of projects that benefit the community. No matter what their individual contribution, each volunteer shares a common desire to make a difference in Aliso Viejo.
Mayor Phil Tsunoda, Mayor Pro Tem Carmen Cave and Council Member William Phillips attended the dinner that also recognized several youth members of the community. The city is celebrating 2010 as the Year of the Youth, and the youth were praised for their individual contributions.
“Every single person in this room is a success story in my book,” said Mayor Tsunoda. “I believe that success has nothing to do with what we gain in life or accomplish for ourselves. It is based on what we do for others.”
Wednesday’s dinner demonstrated the city’s appreciation of these dedicated individuals who step up to the plate and epitomize community pride and volunteerism at its finest. Along with a delectable dinner, the volunteers received certificates of recognition, a cooler tub and the groups received a special video collage of past events.
