The City Council on Wednesday gave staff the green light to move forward with planning Aliso Viejo’s 10th anniversary celebration.
Aliso Viejo incorporated as Orange County’s 34th city on July 1, 2001. In honor of that milestone, the city will commemorate the anniversary with a host of activities, a theme and much more. Public participation will be key to the celebration of this great community.
In the coming months, the city will have a slogan or logo contest and will solicit community-wide ideas, with the winning entry incorporated into the overall theme of the 10th anniversary celebration.
The online Aliso Viejo Memory Book will be activated to continue the virtual historical archive that was created in 2006 with new pages. The city will join forces with Soka University, which also celebrates its 10th year anniversary this year, to work on street banners and events.
There will be a “luau-style” event on Friday, July 1 at the Aliso Viejo Conference Center featuring food, drinks, entertainment and more. The event will give residents the chance to enjoy one of the city’s newest amenities while celebrating its anniversary. The next day, a birthday party for residents will be held at the Aliso Viejo Aquatic Center boasting pool games, entertainment, food and fun.
The city will also consider producing a short film depicting the growth and development of the community along with the business and civic endeavors of a new and thriving city.
On Wednesday, Mayor Carmen Cave said along with these activities, the city will continue to explore other ideas with the community for celebrating this significant anniversary.
Businesses and residents will be involved and a theme of “10” could be represented through things such as 10-cent hot dog specials at the Aquatic Center and other promotions at local businesses.
