Angels Players Make Classroom Connections at South County Schools

Date:

The Angels Baseball Foundation and Cox Communications teamed up for a special event at San Juan and Melinda Heights Elementary Schools

The week of September 26, the Angels Baseball Foundation, Cox Communications, and Cox Business leaders teamed up for assemblies at San Juan Elementary School on Tuesday, September 27 and Melinda Heights Elementary School on Thursday, September 29.

Public Affairs Manager Bridget Kelly welcomed students at the San Juan Elementary assembly. She was joined by Roger Lodge, Writer/Producer/Host of The Sports Lodge and Angels first baseman and right fielder Jared Walsh for a fun Q&A format assembly with questions from the students. The kids were also given Angel Rally Monkeys and some students who were selected by the school for their academic performance and citizenship were invited to a smaller meet and greet with Walsh, for  photos, and  autographs.

Similarly at Melinda Heights Elementary, Cox Business Vice President Jodi Duva spoke about Cox’s commitment to the Affordable Connectivity Program. Duva’s two children, now in high school, are alums of the school. She was also joined by Lodge and Angels Pitcher Jimmy Hergert for a lively Q&A assembly. A smaller group of students were also selected by the school to meet with Herget, for photos, and autographs.

This is the second year the Classroom Connections program has been sponsored by Cox Communications. In 2021, Santiago STEAM Magnet Elementary School and Viejo Elementary School were selected.  Each school receives a $2,000 grant, four tickets per student and staff to an Angels game, and a Classroom Connections banner to hang at the school in addition to the experience students had this week.
