The Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach is proud to present works of art from over 200 local young artists displayed in a very special gallery-style juried art exhibition. Showing off their aesthetic aptitudes and creative imaginations, Club members who participated in the B&GCLB Fine Art program would like to invite you to see the exhibit on Thursday January 13th from 3:00-7:00pm in the Community Room of the Main Branch located at 1085 Laguna Canyon Rd.
The art will be displayed in sections by age groups of 9 and under, 10 -12, and 13-15, and 16-18 year olds. These talented young people have expressed themselves through the mediums of Monochromatic drawing, Multi-colored drawing, Pastel, Watercolor, Acrylic, Print Making, Mixed Media, Collage, Sculpture, and Group Projects. One distinguished entry from each medium and age group will be selected to go on and participate in the Pacific Regional Juried Annual Art Exhibition from Boys & Girls Clubs of America, giving talented Club kids a chance to compete against 400 other Clubs across America.
Laguna’s local artist Tom Swimm (www.tomswimmfineart.com) as well as Laguna College of Art & Design Director of Career Service Robin Fuld, Illustration major Analise Hannah, and Graduate Student Jedd Thomas have all volunteered for the difficult task of choosing which of the many exceptional artworks will go on to the Regional and potentially the National Competition, hosted by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. For the past four years the Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach has had members’ artwork win at the National competition, representing the talent and amazing art program the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach provides.
The Art Director of the Boys & Girls Club, Emily Murray, is extremely proud of all the young artists at the Club, the children’s enthusiasm, and their parents’ support. Murray boasted, “This annual event shows the cumulative creative achievements of all of our Clubs’ talented children, providing an opportunity for creative young minds to shine! This art show provides an empowering chance for our wonderful kids to show off and be proud, knowing that their creative expression is important to us all!”
The Artwork for the exhibit was created in the Fine Arts Club, a year round class once a week, where members explore a wide variety of art mediums and techniques. The art classes are based on the process as opposed to the product, providing an opportunity to develop technique and creative exploration. The activities encourage creative interpretation, creative problem solving, and character development through personal expression. The Art Room is a fun place for kids to express themselves, learn, and grow. The Club offers various opportunities for creative art experiences aside from the Fine Arts Program.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Laguna Beach Visual Arts programs are funded through generous grants from the Hearts of Montage, the Redfern Gallery, the Festival of Arts Foundation, and Laguna Craft Guild.
