Date:

July 4-5, 2009
Happy 233rd Birthday USA

The Networking and Employment Transition Support (“NETS”) Group will host a meeting on Sunday, July 12th from 3:30 to 5:30 pm in Rooms 3 and 4 on the ground floor at Church for those seeking networking, employment transition opportunities, or for parishioners who are looking for good talent to fill open positions. This meeting will feature Mr. Dean Calvano, Recruiter with City of Hope and a fellow Parishioner, who will share interviewing tips from a professional. NETS’ mission is to bring together parishioners who have open job positions with those who are looking for employment opportunities. If you plan to attend or if your company has job openings, please contact or call Ed Jordan at ejordan@noletspirits.com or 949-389-1715.

Next weekend a Missionary priest from the Columban Fathers will be speaking at all our Masses regarding the Order’s missionary activity in eleven countries of Asia and Latin America. As always, a special collection will be accepted at the end of Mass with the basket being placed upon the altar. Thank you for your consideration.

What is a Gospel Revival? It is usually a spirited opportunity for a renowned ‘preacher’ to inspire a community with ‘fiery’ preaching and lively music…frequently accompanied by ample quantities of hospitality and socializing.
Aren’t ‘Revivals’ usually associated with the South and a Pentecostal/Evangelical approach to faith? Frequently, yes, but ‘REVIVALS’ in the Roman Catholic tradition go by the name of ‘RETREAT’, an opportunity to draw apart and experience aspects of our faith in a different manner than how we traditionally celebrate. Retreats are common and frequent in the Catholic tradition.
What will OUR Revival be like? Well, it follows on the foundation of our other strong ‘Summer Experiences’, where our parish family has come together to share energizing events. Our 2009 Gospel Revival will be TWO nights of food, community Gospel Music and dynamic ‘preaching’ by Fr. Charles Wood of the Diocese of Portland, Oregon. The Gospel Choirs represent a vibrant ‘Gospel-style’ of music from multiple parishes in Los Angeles; one is a Young Adult Choir and the other a mixed choir drawn from a variety of parishes. Both Choirs have shared their music at the Religious Education Congress, at the opening Liturgies for Black Awareness Month at Our Lady Queen of Angeles Cathedral and have also sung at the Los Angeles House of Blues Gospel Brunch. Our Revivals will commence with dinner at 6:00 p.m. and then be followed by the evening music/preaching presentation, a weaving together of both music and word…ending with a summer bon-fire and dessert.
Food? You said food? Yes, each evening begins with a shared ‘southern style’ barbeque dinner, offered in a buffet manner. Each evening concludes with a self-serve ice-cream sundae bar with all the necessary fixin’s. While lemonade and water will be available, individuals are free to bring their own alcoholic beverages. (This is a ‘Catholic’ Revival after all!)
Will the Revival be indoors in the Grand Hall? Nope…unless it rains in the middle of July, our plan is to host it under the warm Summer sky on our lawn. Tables and chairs will be available for eating but people can also bring their own picnic chairs or blankets.
Does it cost a lot? What are the fees? The Registration Fee covers the bus transportation for the Choirs, the plane, car and lodging for Fr. Wood as well as the stipends for the Gospel Choirs and Father Wood. In addition…it also includes meals and dessert for both evenings. The fee is $30 per adult and $15 per child (under 12 and over 2), one price for two very full and fun evenings. (Sorry, no discounts or partial payments for partial attendance.) That comes out to $15 per night per adult, inclusive of evening presentation AND dinner!
When is it? Our 2009 Gospel Revival will be celebrated on the evenings of July 29th and 30th, both evenings beginning at 6:00 p.m. and concluding roughly around 9:30 p.m.
How do I sign up? Reservation Forms are on the Concierge Shelves (as well as in this Bulletin)….of late, many of our events have been approaching maximum capacity, so please don’t wait until the last minute, when space may no longer be available.
If I want to help with the set-up, take-down or food service, whom do I contact? Leave your name and phone/e-mail with Fr. Fred at 389-9011.

While we know he leaves us in good hands of those he has shaped and formed, we wish him well in his studies and anticipate his safe return with fresh insights and cutting edge ideas. Jonathan will be returning on July 24th…just in time for our Summer Revival…all fired up and ready to go!

All men and women of the parish are invited to participate with their respective gatherings.

Tasty food from Bootstraps will be available next weekend….
After a few initial hic-cups our ‘BOOTSTRAPS Ministry’ has found a fresh coordinator and is gearing up to offer their first food sale NEXT weekend, July 11-12, after ALL the Masses. As you may recall, BOOTSTRAPS Ministry will be an effort to have bi-monthly or quarterly food sales after designated weekend Masses to generate a fresh and consistent flow of revenue in support of our JAMs and HAVEN Youth Ministries. As is evident by our appeals for Youth Leadership Sponsorships and occasional other youth events, providing Youth Ministry opportunities/retreats/outings can be costly endeavors. As all our JAMs and HAVEN gatherings begin with supper, the food costs alone in feeding upward of 75 teens at a time can be daunting. Terrence Yacap, along with his son, TJ (one of our youth leaders) have accepted the coordination of BOOTSTRAPS. If other adults would like to assist Terrence in this effort, please give him a call at 421-3130 or via e-mail at tyacap@cox.net. Please be advised that all adults participating will necessarily have to be fingerprinted and complete our Diocesan Safe Environment Training programs. Get ready for some tasty food that will not only bring a smile to our faces and fill our bellies….but also help our youth become all that they can be!

If you are looking for a possible way to simplify your Weekly/Monthly Stewardship/Offertory support of Corpus Christi you may wish to join a growing group of parishioners who simply enroll their VISA or MasterCard with OUR Parish Office for monthly billing. You tell us how much you wish charged to your card, your information stays in OUR Office, we do not have an agency do the inputting of information, you get a handy record of your donations for IRS purposes…and you gain valuable points if you are enrolled in one of the Reward programs. If interested, please just give a call to Susie Hays at 389-9008 for more information or to get started.
