Artist by the Sea Kids Series to Feature Laguna Beach, San Clemente Artists
DANA POINT, Calif. – The Ocean Institute is pleased to welcome Laguna Beach artist and educator Karen Talbot for its inaugural Artist by the Sea Kids presentation on Saturday, June 27, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Talbot is a surfer, diver, angler and artist who, with brush or pen in hand, depicts the lives of marine creatures living in a tidepool, rocky reef or kelp forest. Children will work side-by-side with the artist to see firsthand how these animals’ amazing adaptations make them both fun to draw as well as to observe.
The cost is $15, or two children for $25.
A second Artist by the Sea Kids “Lagoonies” presentation featuring Laguna Beach artists Monica Jackson and Colleen Corbett of Corbett Galleries will be held Saturday, July 18, 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. The artists will introduce children to their whimsical creations, the “Lagoonies.”
The cost is $15, or two children for $25.
A third Artist by the Sea Kids presentation featuring Drew Brophy of San Clemente will be held Saturday, July 25. A session for children ages 5-12 will be held 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., and a second session for children ages 8 and up will be held 2 – 4 p.m. Children will paint with kid-safe water-based paint pens, Brophy’s medium of choice.
Brophy maintains a unique painting style with vivid colors, playful characters and beach and ocean scenes. He has created thousands of paintings while traveling and surfing around the world. He draws his inspiration from the waves and the beautiful places he visits.
Participants will enjoy an up close painting session and learn to paint like Brophy. Participants are encouraged to bring surfboards, skim boards, skateboards, or whatever they want to decorate. Gesso boards will be provided to all participants. Paint pen sets and Drew Brophy’s Paint Pen Techniques DVD are available for purchase during the registration process, but are not required for the program.
The cost is $20 per child.
The Artist by the Sea Kids series is an outgrowth of the popular Artist by the Sea series that brings ocean-themed artists to the Institute to educate the public about the beauty of our oceans and encourage them to be good stewards of our ocean environment.
