13th Annual Paint San Clemente Judged Artist Competition
June 14 – 22, 2014
Paint San Clemente Plein Air artists compete to see who does the best job of making historic San Clemente and the natural beauty of the “Spanish Village By the Sea” come alive in the June 14-22 art competition.
All painting must be done in the open air (plein air) as opposed to painting in a studio environment. Artists will be painting at many locations throughout the city. The event is hosted by the San Clemente Artists Association.
The public is invited to view the artists’ progress as they paint each day during the week-long competition.
Artists are limited to entering two paintings which must be painted in San Clemente during this week, and then framed and wired for hanging at the exhibition following the contest. Although this is not a juried show, interest in the competition is expected to be strong.
Artists from as far away as Colorado and New Mexico will be competing with local favorites: Robert Briscos, Marjorie Faircloth, Jennifer Friend, Jean Glass, Steve Kell, Jason Kuncas, Cecilia Lance, Mahroo Lotfalian, Karen Luz, Andi Mandel, Carol Nordman, Lana Perry, Ron Peterson, Patti Prather, Maria Sandoval-Castan, Mary Scott, Herman Sillas, Tom Swimm, Camilla Waller and Fay Wyles.
Two of last year’s winners will be competing again: Alan Nowell (3rd place winner) and Kevin Davidson ( 4th place winner).
Highlights of the week include a Quick Draw competition on Saturday June 14 from 12:30 – 3:30 PM in front of the Community Center and Plein Air on the Lawn Outdoor Artists Exhibit and Sale, June 21-22 from 10:00AM to 4:00 PM.
The Collector’s Evening Gala on Saturday June 21 will be held from 6:00 to 8 :30 PM. at the San Clemente Community Center. Winners of the competition will be announced at that time and paintings will be available for sale. Quick Draw Paintings will be for sale following judging at 4:30 PM on June 14.
The Art Association was founded in 1953 by artist, Lilian Finlay to appreciate all facets of arts and crafts and establish and support an eclectic Art Community in San Clemente. Now with over 350 members and eight Art Shows each year the Association continues to grow and reach out to the local artists and community in meaningful and creative ways.
