Audiences Attending BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL at Segerstrom Center Can Experience Engaging Pre-show Activities April 16 – 28, 2013

• Patrons attending BILLY ELLIOT THE MUSICAL at Segerstrom Center for the Arts can enjoy a repertoire of fun dance events taking place one hour prior to show time. These activities are designed to be entertaining and informative and to help audiences experience actual elements of the show. Ballet barres will be placed throughout Segerstrom Hall and dancers from Anaheim Ballet will demonstrate ballet exercises and answer questions from inquiring guests. 

• Posters will be displayed throughout the lobby and feature basic tutorials on leg positions (1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th) for those who wish to give them a try. 

• A photo opportunity will be created in the orchestra level lobby with a ballet barre and themed items pertaining to the show for props. Guests are encouraged to post photos on their social media sites and use hashtag #BillyElliotOC. 

• FINDING BILLY – a heartwarming documentary about the casting process for finding the three original Billys on Broadway – will be screened throughout Segerstrom Hall.

COSTA MESA, CA – Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films Old Vic Productions and NETworks Presentations, LLC bring the multi-award-winning Billy Elliot the Musical to Segerstrom Center for the Arts from April 16 – 28, 2013.

Based on the international smash-hit film and featuring music by Elton John, book and lyrics by Lee Hall, choreography by Peter Darling and direction by Stephen Daldry, Billy Elliot the Musical has earned critical acclaim around the world and was the winner of ten 2009 Tony Awards including Best Musical.Single tickets, which start at $20, will go on sale Sunday, March 10 at 10 a.m. PT.

Billy Elliot the Musical is the joyous celebration of one boy’s journey to make his dreams come true.  Set in a small town, the story follows Billy as he stumbles out of the boxing ring and into a ballet class, discovering a surprising talent that inspires his family and his whole community and changes his life forever. Currently alternating in the title role are Ben Cook, Drew Minard, Noah Parets and Mitchell Tobin. Also featured are Janet Dickinson (Mrs. Wilkinson); Rich Hebert (Dad); Patti Perkins (Grandma); Cullen R. Titmas (Tony); Joel Blum (George); Jake Kitchin and Sam Poon (Michael); and Samantha Blaire Cutler (Debbie).

Ben Brantley of The New York Times says that Billy Elliot “Sends audiences into a mass swoon!”  Time Out says it’s “The most electric and passionate show in years.”  The Daily News calls Billy “So exhilarating that you feel like leaping!” Liz Smith calls the show “Absolutely awesome,” The New York Observer raves that Billy is “The best thing to happen to Broadway in a long while,” and WOR’s Dave Richardson cheers, “All I can say is WOW!

The production has been awarded 81 national and international awards including ten Tony Awards, Best Musical by the New York Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk, Drama League and Outer Critics Circle. The show is produced by Universal Pictures Stage Productions, Working Title Films, Old Vic Productions and NETworks Presentations, LLC.

The production features scenic design by Ian MacNeil, associate direction by Julian Webber, costume design by Nicky Gillibrand, lighting design by Rick Fisher and sound design by Paul Arditti. Musical supervision and orchestrations are by Martin Koch.  The touring production features direction by Justin Martin and choreography by Kathryn Dunn.
