Do you (or your child) desire to become Roman Catholic in 2011?
Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults and Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children/Teens
With the Easter season starting to wane, you may recall that the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults is the Church-approved manner by which adults who are either not baptized or have been baptized into another Christian denomination are sacramentally received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) or if already baptized in another Christian denomination, through a Profession of Faith. For children/teens ages 7-17, the same Rite is adapted to be age appropriate but remains the universal manner for being received and welcomed into the Roman Catholic Church. Reception into the Church through Baptism or Profession of Faith for children, teens or adults occurs on Holy Saturday during the Easter Vigil Liturgy, April 23, 2011. The preparation process for adults, teens or children who would like to be received into the Church at Easter, 2011, will be getting underway in early summer. Those who would like to participate, and are presently Registered members of Corpus Christi parish, are asked to contact Susie Hays at 389-9008, so that the necessary pre-enrollment paperwork can be assembled. Thanks.

We have nine scholarships so far… and 27 youth wanting to become tomorrow’ s leaders!
The 2010 Youth Leadership Summit will be held August 16 – 20th at the Irvine Outdoor Education Center, a new one-of-a-kind facility located adjacent to Irvine Regional Park. High school students, who have been selected as Corpus Christi Youth leaders, will spend the week learning and practicing skills such as small group facilitation, peer helping, large group presenting, and more while exploring their faith and talents. They will also participate in teambuilding activities, including a ropes challenge course. The Youth Leadership Summit is just the beginning though, as Youth Leaders will serve the parish throughout the year as volunteers in our JAMS middle school youth ministry, in HAVEN high school youth ministry, at parish special events, and more. while continuing to build their leadership skills. The cost for each youth to attend the summit is $400.00 including lodging, food, activities, and supplies. Can you help sponsor/partially sponsor one of our youth? If so, please send your check to Fr. Fred…. THANK YOU!!! Thank you!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!! Thank You!!!

With the arrival of June, Father’s Day is only three weeks away, June 19-20. If you would like to enroll your dads, living or deceased, in the special series of Fathers Day Masses, remembrance cards are available on the Concierge Shelves. Thanks.
Thank You! Corpus Christi is alive and VIBRANT!!!! Our thanks and GRATITUDE to all of Corpus Christi’s Ministry leaders and organization members who came out last weekend for our annual Pentecost Ministry Fair. Being present after ALL our Masses is a sacrifice….and your gift of time and energy is GREATLY appreciated. Thanks as well to Dea Del Rosario and Maribeth Cooper for their efforts in streamlining the Safe Environment and Fingerprinting efforts…and to Maribeth for overseeing the whole effort! Well done!

Our famiglia is gathering for ‘La Cena’ ….

On two Summer Saturday evenings, July 17th and August 14th. the famiglia of Corpus Christi will gather alfresco on our lawn to fill the night with food, beverage, song and dance. On two balmy Summer nights our parish will gather, as Tuscan villagers have gathered for centuries, to celebrate the familial bonds that weave us together. ‘La Cena’ (Lah…Chain…Ahhhh) is the communal meal of Summer celebration, of taking pleasure in each other’s company, of languorous conversations accompanied by ample food, wine, beverage, song and dance. ‘La Cena’ is all about our famiglia sharing table space, passing bowls of pasta and sizzling platters of sausage, breaking bread with one another and sharing famiglia stories along with favorite appetizers and desserts. Commencing immediately following the 5:00 p.m. Mass, ‘La Cena’ will feature full evenings focused on the leisurely meal and those who gather to enjoy it. While a movie will be available for the bambinos downstairs, there will not be any organized activities for children…they are welcome to romp and improvise their play as village children are known to do. ‘La Cena’ participants are asked to bring their own appetizers with which to make new friends as well as a desert for sharing….and bragging! Wine and summer cocktails will be available for purchase but participants are encouraged to bring their own favorite vino with which to quench summer thirsts. Replacing both the former ‘Summer Experience’ and the ‘Wine and Food Festival’, the two opportunities of ‘La Cena’ are the primary parish fund-raising events benefiting the Building Fund. Mindful of tight budgets, each evening of ‘La Cena’ is a modest $25 per adult (15 and up), $15 for children (10-14) and only $10 for bambinos (2-10), infants under 2 are free. To ensure adequate table space on our lawn, please complete the Reservation Form available on the Concierge Shelves and return it to the Parish Offices via USPS (27231 Aliso Viejo Parkway, AV, CA 92656) or via the weekly Stewardship/Offertory Collection.

The annual Diocese of Orange Priest Retreat is coming…
Please note that the annual Diocese of Orange Priest Retreat will be occurring from June 7-11, once again hosted at La Quinta Resort out in the desert (where we have been able to negotiate a tremendous room deal of $89 per room per night…as opposed to their usual $300 per night!) Thus, while the Grand Hall will be open and available throughout the week for private devotions, there will NOT be any Mass on Tuesday or Friday of that week. Also…just so you won’t be surprised, the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and the kneelers from the Blessed Sacrament Chapel will be absent during the week…but being put to very good use in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel we set up at La Quinta…and for the Altar of Remembrance for our Diocesan priests to prayerfully remember their own beloved dead.

Once the graduations are over and summer officially is underway, what better way to get into the swing of summer than getting out of the house….and coming on down to Stadium Brewing in Town Center on Thursday, June 24th from 5pm to 8pm for our next Corpus Christi Diner’s Night! Mark your calendars…and look for the special coupon on the weekends beforehand. Thanks!

Will you be starting high school in September? June is the time to become a HAVENite!

Tell all of your Corpus Christi 8th grade friends that it is time for HAVEN, our high school youth ministry! Joining us in June and July will give you the opportunity to meet new high school friends and even get some advice from your fellow HAVENites about how to survive and thrive the high school years before the big day in September! Our next HAVEN meeting is June 12th. We begin with 5:00 pm mass, continue with dinner and music, and follow with games, activities, the night’s discussion, and reflection stations. You are also welcome to join us on Thursday evenings for Kickback…at Corpus Christi, from 7:00 – 7:45 pm, and/or Scripture Circle from 8:00 pm – 8:45 pm. Contact Linda Palomino for more information and to register. palomino6@cox.net 949-290-3424.

Probably not good for infants…but everyone else is invited….it’s SPRING CLEANING TIME!!!!
In the course of a year our home gets used A LOT! Walls get scuffed, tree branches encroach on roadways, kitchen grease sneaks into hidden nooks and crannys, gum gets stuck beneath the chairs, etc.etc. In order to keep our home bright and sparkling, we have scheduled Saturday, June 12th as our SPRING CLEANING opportunity. In exchange for a barbeque lunch provided by FKB, come on down and help lend a hand in spiffing up the place. Our Facility Manager, Marc Jordan, will oversee the effort, form and direct assorted teams and orchestrate the various projects of the morning. If you have any special equipment (chain saws, leaf blowers, etc.) give him a call at 389-1936.

The tattered flag suspended near the names of US servicemen/women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan comes to us from Matthew Kleine, the son of Mike and Kathy Kleine, who is the Ordnance Officer serving on board the USS Fitzgerald, an Arleigh Burke class destroyer deployed in the Pacific. The USS Fitzgerald carries a crew of 275 and is named after William Fitzgerald who died in Vietnam. The ship’s motto is: Protect Your People. Special thanks as well to Ryan Hays for his preparation of the suspended name boards.
