Applications available for free emergency preparedness program
The city is taking applications for its Community Emergency Preparedness Academy that begins March 16. The free city program provides community outreach to educate residents in emergency preparedness. In the aftermath of a major disaster, residents learn basic skills to save lives and protect property when emergency services are not immediately available.
Members of the academy learn about local hazards and planning; earthquake preparedness and disaster supplies; fire safety, fire extinguishers and wildfire preparedness; First Aid, CPR and defibrillators; and much more.
Classes will be held on consecutive Tuesdays from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. through May 4 at City Hall, which is located at 12 Journey, Suite 100. Food will be provided before each class.
The academy is open to all adult residents or teenagers attending with a parent, who are able to attend the entire program. Class size is limited.
The academy is a collaboration between the city, Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Fire Authority, Doctor’s Ambulance and American Red Cross.
To register for the informative and beneficial academy, contact Aliso Viejo’s Emergency Management Coordinator Steve Rhyner at 949-635-1809 or srhyner@ocsd.org.
