JULY 4TH FIREWORKS: SeaWorld will celebrate the Fourth of July with the “Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular,” an extended display set to patriotic music, at 9:30 p.m. July 4, 2012. During the rest of Summer Nights at SeaWorld, guests may enjoy the park’s fireworks display, “Into the Blue,” which caps off an evening full of amazing nighttime animal shows (display time varies according to park hours; for park hours and show schedules, visit www.seaworldsandiego.com). The fireworks aren’t the only patriotic festivities during Summer Nights at SeaWorld: the park’s landmark 320-foot Skytower Flag of Lights is be decked out in red, white and blue lights, from dusk to midnight, through Sept. 3.
CLUB ATLANTIS CONTINUES: This summer teens can dance the night away at Club Atlantis, Presented by Coca-Cola, located adjacent to SeaWorld’s Journey To Atlantis water coaster! Guests can join CW6 and Channel 933 Thursday through Sunday nights through Aug. 12. The area features music from Channel 933’s DJ Marc Thrasher and includes lights and videos — giving teens a fun and safe atmosphere to spend their summer with friends. BEAT THE HEAT AT SEAWORLD: With the rising temperatures in Southern California, SeaWorld San Diego has numerous ways for visitors to cool off and have fun. Besides sitting in the soak zone section of a “One Ocean” show and getting splashed by Shamu, guests can take a dip with the dolphins in 55-degree salt water at the Dolphin Interaction Program (for reservations call 800-25-SHAMU and press 7) or learn about cold weather penguins in the Penguin Experience Tour (800-25-SHAMU, press 4). BILL POOLE MEMORIAL ANGLING TOURNAMENT: Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute (HSWRI) will host a White Seabass Tournament to benefit research in stock enhancement on July 27 and 28. The tournament, named to honor legendary long-range fishing pioneer and sportsman Bill Poole, will feature a wide range of trophy categories and special prizes for any white seabass captured alive (to be placed into HSWRI’s brood stock program). An awards barbecue banquet and raffle-auction will follow on July 29, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at HSWRI’s Mission Bay facility. The barbecue will feature delicious food prepared on site by local chefs, up close interactions with exotic animals from SeaWorld and tours of the Institute.
