PACIFIC SYMPHONY PIANO FESTIVAL UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR BRILLIANT BRAZILIAN PIANIST ARNALDO COHEN PERFORM
ALL FIVE BEETHOVEN PIANO CONCERTOS
Pinnacle of Symphony’s “Year of the Piano” takes place Thursday-Saturday,
Feb. 3-5; plus, Classical Connections on Sunday, Feb. 6, focuses on
Beethoven’s “Emperor” Concerto No. 5
Pacific Symphony provides patrons with a rare concert experience, when all five of “Beethoven’s Piano Concertos” are performed back-to-back in one captivating weekend—Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 3-5—featuring a different program each night.
Music Director Carl St.Clair leads the orchestra for this highlight of the season, starring internationally acclaimed pianist Arnaldo Cohen, who tackles all five concertos. Of Cohen, the Atlanta Constitution has said: “He’s a big pianist, a large man with a roaring, muscular tone, digital precision and individual interpretations. He is debonair at the keyboard, and he is wise.”
This set of concerts examines the evolution of Beethoven’s concertos, written over a quarter-century span that began in 1785, when Beethoven was just 15 years old. The programming compares Beethoven’s early concertos, clearly influenced by Mozart and Haydn, to his later concertos, where he boldly created new forms and expanded the concerto’s scope and force, breaking into Romanticism.
Tickets are $25-$109; for more information or to purchase tickets, call (714) 755-5799 or visit www.PacificSymphony.org.
