WELCOME, WELCOME! We have many new Bergeson families who will be joining us this Fall and we look forward to welcoming students and families to Bergeson School!
This is our first edition of the Bergeson BARK which will be sent regularly on Fridays but this week, we’re getting it to you earlier since there is some time-sensitive material in it. We try to incorporate all of the newsy news into one publication so that you know all of the up-to-date highlights of what is going on at our school.
THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8, 2010
School hours will be different on the first day of school since it will be a minimum day. Students will meet on the playground to find their new teacher and there will be a sign with the teachers name on it and we will start our day with a mini-flag ceremony at 7:45 AM.. For 1st – 5th grade students, just the first day of school will run from 7:45 – 11:50 AM. We can’t wait to see you!
KINDERGARTEN CORRECTION
The first day of Kindergarten (9/8/10) is 1 hour long and is a day where a parent (or parents) stays with their child for activities and an orientation day.
Early bird Kindergarten: 7:45 – 8:45 AM
Late bird Kindergarten: 9:15 – 10:15 AM
The second day of school will resume as our regular Thursday schedule.
ANNUAL BEAUTIFICATION DAY
Some of our Bergeson families have organized a work day at school to get ready for the opening of school this Sunday, August 29, 2010 from 12 – 5 PM. Even though our custodian, George steam-cleans all of the carpets, waxes the floors and washes windows like a busy-bee all summer long, the outside of our school could really use the help and TLC.
Amy David is organizing this day so feel free to email her at ourcampdavid@yahoo.com or call her at 365-6187, if you need additional information. You don’t need to sign up; just come to Bergeson on Sunday and Amy will have the lists of clean up activities on campus to assign. Please bring a tool or two with you, such as: brooms and dust pans, paint brushes, hammer, pliers to pull staples, live flowering shrubs for our four planters in the front, shovels, rakes, trash bags, bags of bark for planters (small pieces), hula hoes, working gloves, or whatever you can think of. Thank you for your support and feel free to bring the whole family!
BACK TO SCHOOL CELEBRATION
On Tuesday, September 7 at 3 PM we will have a Back to School Celebration to welcome all of our families back to school and classroom assignments will be posted on the library wall. The PTA will generously provide popsicles and popcorn to help with the celebration. Bring your checkbook and go through our PTA/Foundation Buffet Line where you can pay for your PTA membership, Foundation sponsorship, Yearbook, Directory and take care of business all at the same time. If you donate to these organizations on 9/7, you will receive a special gift bag, too.
REGISTRATIONS
We are trying to solidify our class lists and an important part of this is to register all new students and remove any students who have moved from our rosters. If you have new neighbors, encourage them to register for school and likewise, if someone has moved, feel free to call Angel in our school office so that she knows the family will not be at our school this Fall. Thanks for your help!
DRESS CODE
In preparation for coming back to school and in case of back to school clothing purchases, we wanted to clarify the dress code. Capistrano Unified School District has a district-wide dress code (Board Policy 5142). The School Board believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment. Students have the right to make individual choices from a wide range of clothing and grooming styles, but they must not present a health/safety hazard or a distraction, which would interfere with the educational process. Any attire which appears to glorify gang affiliations is prohibited.
Clothing that displays inappropriate messages including, but not limited to alcohol or tobacco products, obscene symbols, signs, slogans or words degrading any person’s race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender or sexual orientation may not be worn. Students may not wear any clothing/apparel which is disruptive, including but not limited to: bare midriffs, halter tops, backless shirts, spaghetti straps (make sure the strap is two fingers wide), short shorts or skirts (with arm down, shorts and skirts must be longer than the fingertips), makeup, tight or revealing clothing or clothing which allows underwear to be exposed.
Hair color must be a natural color. Foot apparel must be worn at all times and all shoes must have toes covered and a back strap for safety reasons. Hats may not be worn to school except when special permission is granted by the administration or teacher for dress up days and/or other specified school events. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
LUNCH NUMBERS
Every 5 years, student lunch numbers are changed and this year is it! On the first day of school, our children will be issued a 7 digit lunch number which will stay with them for at least the next 5 years. 7 digits is a lot for young children to remember. When you get the number, please practice it with your children. There is a possibility that we might be able to send you an email with your child’s lunch number on it so that you can practice it early. If you don’t see an email with this information, please know that we’ll give it to you on the first day of school.
PETER PAN
We have acquired a group discount for the production of Peter Pan at the Orange County Performing Arts Center which is a theatre-in-the-round experience on October 10, 2010, Sunday at 1 PM. Each ticket is $46 (which is a 10% discount from regularly priced seats) and they are very good seats in Section E. If you are interested, make out a check to “OCPAC” and turn into the Bergeson office by September 15. The Bergeson group will sit together. The description from the website: “A spectacular new production of JM Barrie’s classic story direct from engagements in London and San Francisco – conceived by an award-winning creative team, this smash hit production features the original London cast including Titanic star, Jonathan Hyde as Hook and Abby Ford (Harry Potter) as Wendy plus amazing puppets, epic music, dazzling flying scenes and the world’s first 360-degree CGI theatre set. Performed in a state-of-the-art theater pavilion, this magical new “in-the-round” production of Peter Pan is an extraordinary experience for the whole family.”
Respect, Responsibility and Ready to Learn! At Bergeson School, we learn something new every single day!!
