Your child needs to be 5 years old before December 2, 2011 to be eligible for Kindergarten. Or if you have a child currently attending private school and are interested in enrolling them in grades 1-5; please stop by and pick up a packet. HEY KIDS! ASK YOUR MOM OUT TO BREAKFAST FOR MOTHER’S DAY!
The flyer will be sent home next week for our Bergeson Mother’s Day breakfast at Mimi’s Café in their Garden Room on Saturday, May 8 at 8 AM. Kids and mom will have a very special breakfast together which includes a picture (compliments of Jenny Mason Photography) and a rose for mom. $20 for mom (grandmother or guardian) and $15 for kids will include a full breakfast and the fixin’s. We can only accommodate 150 so get your reservation in as soon as you get the flyer. Dad’s can stay home to take care of the honey-do list! This event is sponsored by our Bergeson Foundation.
USED BOOK SALE THIS THURSDAY AND FRIDAY We will have a used book sale in front of the library on Thursday and Friday April 22nd and 23rd. Please bring in used adult and children’s to the MPR through Tuesday, 4/20. Thank you.

The Marino family already bid and won one set of his braces and services at Casino Night, but we wanted to put the second set out to all of the school community who couldn’t come to the event. The highest bidder on April 18th will receive a full set of braces and 24 months of treatment worth $4,000. It can be upgraded for a fee to Invisalign braces for teens and/adults. STAR TESTING DATES ARE MAY 10 – 14: Please mark your calendars to make sure that students are in school during these dates. The California Department of Education has two websites with STAR Released Questions. They are an excellent resource for you to visit to help your 2-5 grade child prepare for the STAR testing that will take place in May. There are sample questions for each grade level and for each proficiency level. BAND AND ORCHESTRA CONCERTS – 4TH AND 5TH GRADERS
The students in Bergeson’s 4th and 5th grade band and orchestra will perform at their spring concert on Tuesday, May 25 in the MPR at Don Juan Avila School, 26278 Wood Canyon in Aliso Viejo at the following times:
4th Grade String Concert at 5:30 PM, arrive at 5:15 PM
5th Grade Band Concert will be at 6:30 PM, arrive at 6:15 PM
5th Grade String Concert will be at 7:30 PM, arrive at 7:15 PM
SUMMER MATH PROGRAM
If you don’t get your application in for this program, they might move this program to another school. Yikes! Send it in if you’re interested! Bergeson is pleased to host a fun and interactive math program this summer for elementary and middle school students. “FASTTMath” & “Fraction Nation” are computer-based programs addressing operations with whole numbers and working with fractions and decimals. This fee-based summer class offers different program/time slot options and runs from 6/28 – 8/12, Monday – Thursdays. The program will be taught by Bergeson teachers Mrs. Terheggen and Mrs. Wiseman. Parents can get an application by clicking HERE. Click on the “Summer Math Program” link on the left side of the page. We are required to have 60 students by May 15 to run this program at Bergeson. Don’t miss out on this great summer learning opportunity for your kids!
BERGESON SUMMER ACADEMY
We are pleased to host our 2nd year of the Bergeson Summer Academy for our current Kindergarten through 5th grade students from 9 – 11 AM, Monday through Thursday in two 2-week sessions starting on Monday, June 28. The program will be taught by Bergeson teachers and is a wonderful way to help students keep the great academic skills which they have built throughout the course of this school year. We will send a flyer home next week. The program will focus on Reading and Math. Classes will be kept small so that we can help to individualize instruction. If you were interested in doing both the math program and the Summer Academy, you could schedule your math times before and after the academy times to extend the day.
SOCSA PRESENTS THE CLASSIC BROADWAY MUSICAL 42ND STREET
42ND Street tells the timeless, inspiring tale of small Allentown, PA, Peggy Sawyer’s (Jane Papageorge) rise from chorus girl to Broadway star. With a LIVE BAND, dozens of tap dancers and a great set, this is a MUST SEE production. 42ND STREET includes these classic songs: “We’re in the Money”, I Only Have Eyes for You”, “Lullaby of Broadway”, “Shuffle Off to Buffalo”, and many more memorable songs.

SAN JUAN HILLS HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS THE MUSICAL, INTO THE WOODS
Don’t miss this epic BROADWAY Fairy Tale musical hit by Stephen Sondheim & James Lapine. It takes classic fairy tales: Cinderella, Jack in the Beanstalk, Rapunzel, & Little Red Ridinghood; and weaves them into a beautiful evening of sheer entertainment that is poignant and meaningful for modern day audiences. Come AND SEE Into the Woods with the San Juan Hills High School, Collaborative Arts Program. Into The Woods will be performed in the San Juan Hills High School Theater on April 22, 23, 24, 29, 30 & May 1 at 7:00pm. Seating is limited, so purchase your tickets early! Join us for the opening night gala in the lobby conference room before the performance: our tradition of celebrating the opening of another great show.
IN LINE ~ ON TIME
Congratulations to Mrs. Brewer and Meckel’s classes who have been In Line ~ On Time for 17 days to spell out the words PERFECT ATTENDANCE (one letter for each day) and received their Popsicle party and new class ball. (Congrats to the parents, too!)
CELEBRATION BOOKS LIBRARY DONATION
Purchasing a book for the Bergeson Library is a great way to honor your child’s birthday, applaud a major accomplishment, recognize good grades or just proclaim your child as an outstanding Bergeson Bulldog. In recognition of your donation to the library, your child is recognized by Principal Scholl during the Friday morning flag salute and a “Book Plate” will be affixed to the inside cover of your book selection announcing, “This book was donated in your child’s honor!” Recognitions of book donations are presented every Friday at 7:45 am. Book Club Forms can be picked up in the office. Donating a book to the Bergeson Library is a wonderful tribute for your child that all Bergeson students can enjoy for many years. SHINING STARS
Students have donated their time and given of themselves for a service-learning project called Shining Stars. Applications for these projects are in the office. We will celebrate the students and their accomplishments through our Character Counts program and honor them at our Friday flag ceremony. Congratulations to our Shining Stars for their community service and for “paying it forward”: Michaela Snook, Jordan & Jacob Sprick, we’re proud of you!
