FOOTPRINT FRIDAY: Every Friday is Footprint Friday where we bring our plastic bottles and aluminum cans to school. The next two weeks are special because we have a competition: girls against the boys to see who can bring in the most bottles and cans and next Friday is the last day. Today, the totals were:
Girls: 12 bags
Boys: 11 bags
It’s super close! Let’s see what happens next week. Thank you for donating to our school.

5th GRADE FAMILIES: 5th GRADE COSTUMES: If your child has a costume that was used for the Wax Museum and you don’t think you’ll use it again, feel free to donate it to school for next year’s 5th Graders. Mrs. “T” loans out costume pieces each year from our drama collection and she would like to continue collecting for future 5th grade Wax Museum projects. You are welcome to bring your donations to the office.
SAVING TIME IN SEPTEMBER: During the first week of school, elementary students always carry home a large packet of information for parents/guardians to read over, fill out, update, and return. By registering NOW for a Parent Portal account, the time you spend completing all of that documentation in September will be drastically reduced! By logging onto your Parent Portal account after July 25, you will be able to complete 80% of the process online. Emergency contacts, demographic information, and medical history forms can be reviewed and updated instantly. Policies, applications, permissions and authorizations can be reviewed and accepted electronically. If you have more than one child, simply toggle between children and follow the same steps. Letters were distributed to you in your fall parent conference with specific information related to Parent Portal account creation. The information in the letter includes your student’s ID, home phone, and a unique verification code which will be needed during the portal registration process. Using the information from the letter, simply logon to abi.capousd.org where you will find directions and a link for creating your Parent Portal account. There is also a Parent Portal link on each school’s homepage. A HELP link is available at abi.capousd.org if you have questions during the summer “re-registration” process. If you have lost your letter, please contact the school office by June 15 for a replacement.
LIBRARY BOOKS: Our Bergeson library is closed for the last few weeks of school so that we can inventory books. Please look under the bed and the couch to make sure that all library books are returned to school this week. If you have a lost book, our library will send out a note for payment in the next few weeks.
KINDERGARTEN 2012-2013: If you have a child that will turn 5 by November 1, 2012 and you live within the Bergeson school boundary, please come to pick up a kindergarten registration packet. Also, if you know of a neighbor that has a child of kindergarten age please let them know that Bergeson is registering now for next year. Our last day for registration for the summer will be June 22. Our office will reopen again in mid-August. Families don’t need to have all medical/immunizations finished. They can register and return the rest to us later.
MANDARIN CHINESE IMMERSION NEWS: If you are interested in fundraising efforts and social events, you can find information on this website: www.friendsofmip.com.

YMCA Mandarin K-Plus Update: Currently the YMCA is looking for qualified candidates to fill at least, two positions; K-Plus Lead Teacher and an Associate Teacher/Assistant, to implement the Mandarin K-Plus Program. These candidates need to have minimum of 12 to 24 Early Child Education units plus units in related fields while an Assistant does not need to have ECE units. They must be available, at a MINIMUM, from 11-200 pm, Monday through Friday. Pay ranges will vary, depending on the position, from $8-15.50 an hour. If you are interested in more information regarding this program or in applying for one of these positions, please call Dorain Cassell at (949) 380-3521 or visit our website at ymcaoc.org. Kindergarten-Plus is an opportunity for children to have a full-day Kindergarten experience where the YMCA staff will reteach and support the curriculum which has been learned during the morning Kindergarten time. Next year at Bergeson, we will have a Mandarin K-Plus and our traditional English-Only K-Plus program.
MIP REGISTRATION: If you have not yet registered/enrolled your eligible child for the program yet, please do so before the school office closes for the summer. The office will shut down on June 22th and will not reopen until August 13th so hurry in to get your enrollment completed by coming into the Bergeson Office with your proof of residency.
CROWN VALLEY SOCK HOP AND CAR SHOW: Join the fun and the excitement at the Annual Crown Valley Elementary School Sock Hop and Laguna Niguel Car Show on Saturday, June 16, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Crown Valley Elementary School Sock Hop is an old-fashioned, 50’s style carnival with games, food, and music. Four bands will take the stage throughout the day to rock the CV community! Sweet Mojo and Ugly Paint will provide alternative rock, Rusty Nails will be performing country hits, and the Hot Rod Trio brings rock-a-billy to Laguna Niguel! You will want to bring your appetite so you can enjoy Sweet Lou’s BBQ, Company 77 Pizza Fire Truck, Kona Ice, Powell’s Sweet Shoppe and many, many more food stands. Kids, including those who are young at heart, are invited to try their skill at the numerous games to win prizes, and also try out the 50 foot obstacle course, Velcro wall, pitch burst water drop, and spin art. Face painters and balloon animal artists will be roaming the Sock Hop to add to the fun! Hold on to your helmet as ASE Skateboards shows off their half-pipe skills during the skateboard exhibition. You want excitement? How about the cackle of Shirley Muldowney’s dragster starting up? The dragster will be part of the Laguna Niguel Car Show. Last year, 55 vintage autos and muscle cars competed for prizes . . . we are expecting even more this year! Winners in each category will receive custom trophies. Do you have a car you would like to enter? Goodies bags and a free gift will be handed to all registrants. Information and pictures from last year’s event can be accessed from the Crown Valley Elementary website.
SHINING STARS: Don’t forget to fill out an application in the office for a child who has completed some Community Service so that they can receive their Shining Star at the Friday Flag Ceremony. All of our Shining Stars will have their Star in the MPR for the whole school year. Kids feel good when they give to others. Let’s teach them this valuable lesson at an early age.
Ethan Martin: ALL ON HIS OWN collecting and saving all of his family’s bottles and cans for Footprint Fridays. He set a great example to younger and “fellow” students!
Kyra Daffron, Kyndle Winchester, Brooke Orrill, Sophie Warth: Being great Footprint Friday helpers – every Friday they were there with a smile on their faces handing out Bergie Bests and stamps!
Jayne Jonas and Verinia Gillebard: They donated their hair to Locks of Love to make wigs for cancer patients. They have been growing it all year for this purpose!
CELEBRATION BOOKS: For $20, you can donate a book to our Bergeson library in honor of your child. Donation forms are in the front office. You or your child can pick the book out of some books that we have pre-ordered. This is a wonderful way to celebrate a child’s birthday or other special event and Mrs. Scholl will present the book to the child in front of the whole school at the morning flag ceremony. We have received a whole new order of library books to choose from for our Celebration book orders. You can order them early and we will save them until the birthday or big event happens, too. (CELEBRATE SUMMER BIRTHDAYS BY HONORING OUR KIDS ON JUNE 20)
Nicole Kouwabunpat – Mrs. Terheggen’s class – In honor of her 9th Birthday!
