The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is proud to announce its 2010 Board of Directors whose combined talents, expertise, and passion for helping kids will have a profound impact on our community.
Leading the Board is Bob Whalen as President, followed by Kelly Mazzo as V.P. of Board Development, Bill Wood as V.P. of Development, Keith Swayne as V.P. of Endowment, John Zegowitz as V.P. of Community Outreach, Walt Lindberg as V.P. of Human Resources, Dorene Butler as Secretary, Brent Farhang as Treasurer, Bill Fischer as Past President and members James Bermingham, Dan Burge, Don Crevier, Keith Gallo, Paula Hornbuckle, David Howard, Susan Jacob, Phyllis Phillips, Teddie Ray, and Piero Wemyss.
The Board of Directors and staff are looking forward to further strengthening the organization in 2010. Their task at hand will include navigating the Club through the current economic challenges while standing firm on the Boys & Girls Club commitment to quality youth development programs that positively impact lives in meaningful ways. The Board of Directors are dedicated to enabling “The Club” to fulfill its mission, “To inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as healthy, caring, and responsible citizens.” This shared goal has never been more relevant or more needed, and the Board of Directors is ready to stand behind The Club, its purpose in the community and the children it has pledged to serve.
This year the combined efforts of Board, staff, and partnering organizations will focus on growing the Boys & Girls Club’s impact in three areas. 1) Getting the word out about their nationally acclaimed and award winning art programs to further secure Laguna’s creative legacy, 2) providing new opportunities to engage teens based on their own special interests (such as a skate ramp), and 3) to make the future great by reaching out to even more kids who may not have previously considered joining the Club.
The Boys & Girls Club Board of Directors have a collective understanding that the girls and boys of our community are the future and a little positive mentorship and tempered guidance can be just what they need to help them recognize and seize their own possibilities. It is the Club’s goal to reach more local youth who can benefit from the balance of encouragement, support and environment provided by the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach. It is the Club’s hope to provide even more kids the opportunity to learn the values of Character through experience, to find their own role in the community, and to grow into their own potential. Whether they attend every day, once a month, only during basketball or just hanging out at Brooks Street, the Boys & Girls Club of Laguna Beach is here to help all young people grow into something GREAT.
The Boys & Girls Club of Laguna has been part of the community for over a half a century and is one of the largest agencies in town, employing 40 people and maintaining a 1.5 million dollar budget. As part of their focus on strengthening the organization and has also started an endowment fund to sustain impact for generations to come.
