DANA POINT, Calif. – Bring the Ocean Institute to your school or childcare center this summer with the Visiting Sea Camp series. Programs take advantage of small class settings to maximize the level of interaction and learning, as well as an awareness and appreciation of the many amazing creatures in our oceans. There are three activity plans:
Is it a Dolphin or a Shark? – For grades pre-K through grade 6, students learn the five characteristics of a mammal and the differences between sharks and whales. Using hands-on activities and artifacts, the program showcases the unique characteristics of these animals.
All the Way to the Ocean: a Watershed Investigation – For grades 2 through 6, students receive an environmentally relevant program illustrating the effects of human impact on our watersheds. The use of tidepool animals and a watershed model will highlight the relationship between the water cycle, marine animals and pollution.
Life in the Intertidal Zone – For grades pre-K through 6, students learn the adaptations necessary for animals to survive in the harsh intertidal zone. Campers interact with live sea stars, urchins, snails and hermit crabs.
Program modifications may be requested to meet your camp’s needs. Cost is $405, includes all supplies and equipment. Includes three 50-minute sessions. Maximum number of participants, 25 per session or 75 per visit.
All programs taught by Ocean Institute instructors at your facility.
