Teams Now Forming, Calling All Participants and Sponsors for the 4th Annual Relay For Life of Ladera Ranch
MISSION VIEJO, CA – Kaleidoscope dining, retail and entertainment center will hold the first ever corporate-hosted American Cancer Society (ACS) Relay For Life on Sunday, July 22 at 2 p.m. until Monday, July 23 at 2 p.m. at 27741 Crown Valley Parkway, Mission Viejo, CA 92691. This year’s theme is “Kaleidoscope of Colors Against Cancer”.
“Relay For Life events are typically held at a park, field, school track, college, or similar venue. Holding the event at a corporate venue such as the Kaleidoscope Entertainment Center has never before been done in the state of California, so the American Cancer Society considers this really innovative and groundbreaking,” said Danielle Blugrind, Event Co-Chair, Relay For Life of Ladera Ranch 2012.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight team event designed to raise awareness about cancer and raise funds to support the research, education, advocacy and patient services vital to the ACS mission of eliminating cancer. Annually, it brings together 3.5 million people to Celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer, Remember loved ones lost to the disease, and Fight Back against a disease that takes too much.
After collecting donations leading up to the event, on Relay Day, team members take turns walking around the track during the 24-hour period, making sure that someone is on the track at all times. Each Relay For Life starts with the Survivor’s Lap. At dusk, luminaria bags are lit to create a path of hope. The Luminaria Ceremony is a time for reflection, grieving and hope. The event wraps with the Fight Back Ceremony, a time for attendees to pledge to fight back against cancer.
This year’s Relay For Life of Ladera Ranch will feature extensive entertainment. Kicking off the Opening Ceremony and Survivor Lap will be Bones West, a large “big band” style trombone choir. Other entertainment will include The Derby Band, musicians from local bands No Look Escape and Telesound, cheer performances by Cal Elite and Pacific Coast Magic, R.I.P.P.E.D. 4 Kids, face painters, balloon twisters, games, concessions and more! “The Amazing Race” Season 5 winner, Chip McAllister, will be this year’s MC.
“Kaleidoscope will bring a whole new level of fun and energy to the Relay For Life of Ladera Ranch with all that it has to offer,” said Dawn Lauriano, 2012 Relay Committee Co-Chair. “We are excited to be able to provide survivors, family, friends and supporters a comfortable, safe and upbeat place to hold this meaningful and important event.”
Kaleidoscope center businesses are joining in to support Relay event participants. The Derby Manhattan Grill will sponsor a pancake breakfast for all Relay participants from 7-9 a.m. Monday morning. Participating Kaleidoscope Restaurants, including Rockin’ B’s Burrito Bandito, The Derby Manhattan Grill, Riptide Sushi & Teppan Grills, and Rocco’s Pizzeria will donate 20% of dining purchases during the event, back to Relay For Life. Jump ‘n Jammin will offer admission discounts to participants and will remain open on Sunday, July 22 until 9 p.m. Rocco’s Pizzeria and Buffalo Wild Wings are extending their hours to midnight and Laser Quest until 10:00 p.m.
Relay For Life is ACS’s signature event, taking place across the nation and in countries around the globe. It is the largest annual not-for-profit fundraising event in the world.
